So my friend recently reformatted their hard drive, forgetting to put all their itunes music on flash drives and CD's. Now, all the songs they want to keep are still on the ipod, but as soon as they hook in up and pull up itunes, it will delete everything they currently have. Is their any possible way they could put all the songs into a diff folder, so when itunes deletes them all they could just like import all the songs back to itunes?
Thank you.
firstly, apple forum.
As far as I know of, for free anyways there is now way to do it.
Try EphPod.
ugh didnt see the apple subforum >.<.
Anyways, ive heard bad things about EphPod... Is it completely safe?
Edit: I take it that EphPod also pulls off the ipod songs right?
If you show hidden files you can browse through the ipod and find where it stores the songs... but they'll be named 4 odd letters.
So in explorer view the music become ugly, but the meta data should be fine to view in library players, e.g. itunes
I did this once, though I only had 512mb of music, but songs were named XMTB and that would play Lithium - Evanescence... So explorer shows XMTB, Itunes shows Lithium - Evanescence / The Open Door

You can probably get an mp3 tagger that would rename the songs in explorer for you.
Ok, so then i can just drag the files into another folder, then just import to itunes, and it will recognize all the real song names automatically?
Drag them from your iPod onto a folder on your local drive, and yeah, I'm assuming Itunes will do it, I'll check later tonight, but Foobar and Windows Media Player both read the metadata (which is correct).
Then look for an mp3 tagger which should rename the explorer files.

Though when you plug in the ipod Itunes may try to sync, which would delete the files on your Ipod... so maybe uninstall Itunes first.
I didn't have Itunes at my dads (which is where I was doing it) I was just using Foobar
Just discovered Touch Copy.. This would be better.

there is a feature in itunes just got to file then library then back up to disk. and then when you have itunes on your new reformatted computer just put the disk in and it should say something like restore playlist or something.
