• Creative writing suggestions

Hi FP. For my GCSE English coursework I need to write a piece of creative writing but I'm having difficulty thinking of anything. The suggestions were something autobiographical or a short story but even so I can't think of a decent topic to write about. Any sensible suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.
We had to do that autobiography crap. I hate that type of writing. But aren't teachers usually more help full than this? Mine always gives us something to start of with. Here's what we had to do: I was lying on the sidewalk/pavement bleeding..........Continue. Yeah it's pretty strange, I ended up doing some kind of action/thriller type scene, and I'm thinking of slowly adding to it to maybe even make a book.
Thanks for your reply. She was really open about it. Normally that's good but not when the coursework deadline is in 3 weeks.
I would prefer the teacher to be a bit more open ended, but most of our deadlines are like 1-2 weeks. I end up doing most of it in a night anyway. I think my teachers tactics just to try and churn out as much coursework as possible and pick the best ones. Almost got 100% A* now, was 2 marks of it in a Frankenstein analysis GRRRR. Anyway, to try and be a bit more helpful, pick a book that you like take the characters and settings, then do a short story based off it. My "lying on the sidewalk bleeding" Coursework was ripped from a combination of Far Cry 2, Blood Diamond and the James Bond Books.
You could also pick any place at any time period in history. Then find out all the different kinds of people that live there at the time. Pick your favorite group of people and come up with your very own individual from that group. Start off with making a profile of your person. Include things like their name, age, gender, job, salary(if applicable), conditions of their childhood(i.e. if they grew up on a farm or something, or if an important family member died), and anything else you want to say about them. Next, find out what events were occurring in that time period and in that area. Then, in the form of a letter to someone or a journal entry, write about that particular event(you can't write about the whole time period. It just doesn't work.) from the point of view of the person you made. Afterward, you can continue to use the same person in future writing assignments in a similar fashion.
Think of a film/book you know well, borrow the main characters and throw a self-modeled character into an important scene. Then ask yourself, "What would I do in this situation?" Then give it a good opening to explain what got it to that scene where you added yourself and close it off with your character's nice interference.
Thanks guys, some really nice suggestions. I'll ask my teacher tomorrow for her to give me a stricter task.
If your instructions are "just a piece of creating writing" you can go wild. Got a favourite game? Write a short story about someone who lived in that game world. Favourite Film? Book? Same applies. Otherwise, Mort's suggestion is a great one. Start with a simple sentence, and expand on it, have fun with it. Other possible ones: - "I should've known it would be him." - "It turns out my worries were well-founded." - "Ever wish you'd never met someone? I do." (If you want to write more emotional stuff) The list is endless. Good luck.
