I haven't seen Will in a LOOOOOOONG time.
It's a shame too, he's a cool dude. I wish he didn't have his views on what he wanted Spore to be stepped on in development. Is he still in the games industry? Wish we could see more of the games only he could offer.
Wills point about size is so stupid. Ocean said it was a performance concern, not a design decision. So now it's a design decision?
Will mentioned he said now he can't just trash a place and move over, but... that's part of whats good with SC4. With a big plot, you can throw up cheap housing for more residence, and then beef it up later.
Whatever the reason, they should see pretty quick that people want bigger maps, hopefully it's changed.
It must suck to be Will Wright. Seeing these wonderful, complex games you've created be turned into dumbed down, soulless money-makers.
Sims went down that path, Spore went down that path (it didn't even make it out the door before being hit with EA's Casual Ray(TM), and now SimCity is going down that path.

Honestly, this new SimCity looks to be a huge improvement over Societies, which was exactly as you described.

I played the second one, and I found it pretty fun, it's still pretty complex and the city actually feels alive and like a real city.
