Wasn't New Super Mario Bros. kind of Super Mario Bros. 4?
Super Mario World is SMB4 in Japan
Edit: I didn`t read the whole article opps
I hope they're not doing the 2.5D thing. A 2D SMB game would look so sexy with vector graphics.

Didn't Nintendo say they were going to develop a new 2d Mario game in the near future?

2D can mean a lot of things.
If there is a Super Mario 4 being annouced, it better have a giant world.
it's already been done, nintendo.

I loved the 2.5D style. I felt as if it was modernized but done right.
Maybe a 2.25D style like Rayman Origins.

I remember playing this game a lot on a pirate 15-games-in-1 cartridge when I was a kid.
The second level was IMPOSSIBLE to pass because you needed to get hurt once to reach certain point of the scenery but then you needed the power-up you just lost in order to reach the next zone
I never got the whole 2.5D thing, it has 3 dimension so it is 3d

2.5D usually means 3D environment/models but 2D gameplay. For example: Kirby 64

Sonic Generations
Aw fuck, now I wanna play Sonic Generations goddamn it
Sounds like Nintendo's catching up for the fourth time. Optimistically, SMB4 won't come in separate, terrible-sounding episodes.
Why no metroid 4?
It wouldn't matter if its a 2d or 2.5d game to me a true sequel to super metroid is all I want
I certainly hope whatever it turns out to be is better than Mario Land 3D.
Don't get me wrong, it's a fun game, but it certainly has its fair share of problems.
yay, more shovelware from our favorite dying-and-doesn't-want-to-admit-it company, Nintendo!

Not exactly
They're just wasting time on stupid spinoffs

Metroid Fusion is supposed to be Metriod 4 and Other M is supposed to be your "true sequel". The franchise is in a George Lucasy kind of situation where the creator of the original game wants control over the franchise but can't write worth a damn, so everyone else just has to kind of put up with him.

How is Nintendo dying?
"true gamers" isn't Nintendo's market.

Good. Super Mario 3D Land was brilliant. (if short)
