That means it's officially confirmed not necessary at all :buddy:
Oh wow, this is peak bullshit. They're lying to the investors now LOL
So much for the "The microtransactions are needed for them to keep supporting the game!" defense a lot of people use.
"please don't leave us" - EA to their investors
It could mean they expect it to not impact them because they're going to turn them back on, or it could mean they just haven't included microtransactions in their sales expectations because who knows how many will buy in to them.
Or they could just be lying.

Good. I hope they go up in flames and end up near broke or whichever worst case scenario.
Sorry about the people working there but they are not going to change otherwise.
EA needs to crash and burn. So the souls of all devoured studios may rest in peace.
[sp]Westwood ;_;7[/sp]
You know if they totally caved into pressure, I might buy this from the bargain bin.
You know if they totally caved into pressure, I might buy this from the bargain bin.
Wait until they've definitely removed it, and clearly and plainly said and promised it won't return.

I'm wanting to refuse this game on principle alone. Fuck EA and their greed. They don't deserve my money after the shit they've tried to pull.
I've got Battlefront 2 (THE ONE THAT ISN'T SHIT) and I can even play it online again.
So I'll just reiterate, fuck EA.
Sooo they didn't expect to actually sell any of them then?
I think now is the best time to probably buy the first New Battlefront. You could get the whole package for $5 (Might go that cheap for Black Friday). It's good for time wasting a few rounds in a visually impressive Star Wars setting.
So much for the "The microtransactions are needed for them to keep supporting the game!" defense a lot of people use.
They're needed for games to be supported with free substantial content well after (year+) the point of sale, but not with games like Battlefront that will inevitably charge substantial amounts of money for insubstantial amounts of content.
They're needed for games to be supported with free substantial content well after (year+) the point of sale.
So DLC's and expansion packs, except harder for end-user to know how much they pay for content.
So DLC's and expansion packs, except harder for end-user to know how much they pay for content.
Well, I'd prefer cosmetic unlocks than ruining the balance of a multiplayer game by having some players able to access essential characters whilst others couldn't. Imagine how much more fucked competitive Overwatch would be if you had to buy Ana. I'm all for DLC and expansions, expansions in particular need to make a comeback, but I think cosmetic unlocks with free content is a far better way of doing it for competitive multiplayer games specifically because it doesn't create an inherent imbalance.
I would prefer to have some sort of non-gameplay altering DLC/Microtransactions (I.E. Cosmetics) then to split the community with Map packs and the such.
If splatoon 2 and arms can give out free maps and free content without nickle and diming it's consumers then I don't see why battlefront can't do it.

Cheaper.
Cheaper.
It's silly that you think that, despite both of them being two very popular multiplayer games, one of which is a new I.P, both games sold well, both games made their investments back and more and they were also handicapped to a degree, because they are only available on the Switch, let's look at Battlefront, Star Wars is a massive I.P, it's multi platform, Battlefront 2 was practically expected to make E.A so much money, estimated to be more than the first by far, which practically made enough money to make 7 new battlefronts and this game would have made so much more than the first game, more than they invested by far and probably it still will, but they still somehow "need" microtransactions, they still "need" lootboxes, they shouldn't really need to use microtransactions in a £60 game, an FPS, set in one of the largest franchises ever, but no, they couldn't possibly support free DLC without them! Another example, Call of Duty WW2 earned over £500 million in sales in it's first three days of sales ALONE, that's more than Wonder Woman's opening weekend and Thor: Ragnarok's opening weekend sales combined and yet they implemented lootboxes later on and still have lootboxes and they still have DLC.
Microtransactions and paid DLC aren't really required, they are nickle and diming you.
I said it once and I'll say it again. EA is ripping you the fuck off. They are one of the richest publishers in the world, so why do they NEED money again? Please stop falling back to "game development is expensive" Yeah its expensive, doesn't change the fact that EA makes their money back and then some with damn near every release. They can afford to lose a little money for long term fan trust and support.
If Nintendo....NINTENDO with its ass backwards way of dealing with the internet can understand this, while using an exclusive platform AND new IPs, why the fuck can't EA?
Wait until they've definitely removed it, and clearly and plainly said and promised it won't return.
So a game that has completely free DLC content should get rid of its only way of making money? Yeah, I'm sure that'll end well.
So a game that has completely free DLC content should get rid of its only way of making money? Yeah, I'm sure that'll end well.
yeah I mean it's not like the game costs $60 or anything
So a game that has completely free DLC content should get rid of its only way of making money? Yeah, I'm sure that'll end well.
Yeah, its not like there are examples of devs doing risky shit with that very model and doing well for themselves.
Oh wait....
So a game that has completely free DLC content should get rid of its only way of making money? Yeah, I'm sure that'll end well.
Apparently a $60 FPS game set in one of the biggest and most popular media franchises in history isn't a big money maker?
Could've fooled me.

I'd rather have DLC'S or expansion packs.
What you pay for with those is more transparent and obvious than microtransactions and lootboxes, and that's why EA hate them.
And it's a Star Wars game, it would've sold millions if it wasn't for rampant anti-consumer practices.

I'd rather not have my games fragmented and needing to buy stuff to get the full game, thanks. Yes, I could buy some loot crates or I could...not?

Hey man, that's capitalism. If you want stuff for free then you're in the wrong economic system.
lootcrates tend to affect the core of the game design and you'd be a fool to think otherwise
there's a reason why vader was 40 hours of playtime to unlock
[editline]18th November 2017[/editline]
"i like being fucked in the ass raw because that's capitalism baby" dude just stand up for your consumer rights for like half a minute at least god damn
I don't think this is a big deal, sorry, I'm playing the game RIGHT NOW not spending a cent and have been having a blast. I'm excited for the free DLC that I don't have to spend money on and/or risk the playbase halving as a result.
So a game that has completely free DLC content should get rid of its only way of making money? Yeah, I'm sure that'll end well.
If you still wanna believe that EA won't turn a huge profit from just charging the base price that's on you. But there should be no denying that this garbage system of P2W microtransactions or even microtransaction for content in the base game is downright ridiculous.
If they wanna make money the right way, do it by charging for content post game. If you wanna do it without segmenting the playerbase, only charge for post-game cosmetics.
Also this is only speculation, but with how the progression system is, "free" will prolly be a loose term for the dlc. The original prices of heroes was gonna take 40 hours to grind and it's already been confirmed the dlc heroes will cost more than base. The dlc may be obtainable in game but I'm sure EA will want you to buy you way to them.

And yet you're in favor of loot boxes? Pay to win loot boxes at that?
Again, we have examples of games doing free DLC, free content, no microtransactions, and being successful. In fact, EA could have stuck to an overwatch model and EA Battlefront 2 could have sold like crack cocaine on a black friday sale. Their own fucking greed did this to them. Whatever "not having my games fragmented" is worth, it sure as shit isn't worth that.
