Hey guys,
Just got Win7 installed on my rig and was looking for a graphics card upgrade since I'm using the shittiest hunk of crap I've ever seen.
I've got a budget of ~£400 but I'm in a bit of situation.
My motherboard doesn't support Crossfire so ATi are bascially out the window for this.
Now that leave me with NVIDIA, and they don't have DX11 support yet and don't even have a release date for the 4 series out yet.
So the question is....
Buy the 295 and live with DX10 for the time being.
Wait it out and get a new 4 series card when it comes out.
Or bite the bullet, get a whole new rig and get ATi.
What do you guys think?
You dont need Crossfire for ATi... ?
There is so much wrong with your post..
1. What are the detailed specs of your computer??
2. Since when is crossfire mandatory??
3. Don't buy a 295
4. What do you use your computer for?
CPU: Intel Q9550
MB: ASUS P5N-D
RAM: 4GB DDR2
Gpx: NIVIDA GeForce 8500 GT (Shit Dell Stock that I need to get rid of)
PSU: 750W
OS: Win7 64 bit
PC is really just used as a gaming rig, got the laptop for any document work.
Didn't really see the point in posting specs, but meh the ATi 5870 doesn't work on this MB as far as I know.
the 5870 works on your mobo fine, why wouldn't it?
I've spoken to a few people who work in IT and had a look myself, I was told that it's NVIDIA or another motherboard. Hence why I said 'as far as I know' but if you guys think that it's fine then it seems that I've been had!
Anyone got any conformation? I don't wana buy this thing and have to send it back......
the people who you're talking to are clueless

The only possible restrictions here would caused by the dimensions of the 5870, which you should certainly check before you buy one.
Checked the dimensions, it should fit by an inch.
My head is hurting now, seems like buying the 5870 is the right choice unless someone can actually find some freaking evidence.
find some evidence for what
I just don't want to buy a £350 card and have it not work. Not that I don't trust like 6 different people's judgement, but I'd rather find some sort of confortmation that the card is compatiable with a P5N-D Asus motherboard.....
Wow, if you have a PCIE x16 slot, itll work.
THey mean you cant have two ATI cards.
You do know that crossfire is two ATI cards right?
Get a 5850 or 5870

Your mobo has a PCI-E slot, your CPU is good so there shouldn't be bottlenecks, the new card fits into your case and you should have well enough amps in your PSU. So why the hell not?
Had a look on the web, found this, amazingly this guy has the same motherboard and PSU as I do and his never worked.

He either did something wrong or he has faulty hardware. It will work.

He didn't uninstall his old drivers...
wow that guy was doing it wrong
get a fucking 5870 and itll fucking work holy shit
PCI-E cards fit PCI-E slots. What else do you want?
5870 will work.
If you want to be arrogant and not listen to people who know what they are talking about, then why the hell even post here?
thats how trolls roll
Any fucking graphics card will work.

Get a 5850 and overclock it easily to 5870 speeds.
Good money saver.
Better idea!
-Wait for 4xx series to release
-Buy 58xx card for low low prices!
-???
-PROFIT

fermi isn't guaranteed to lower cypress prices, in fact GPU markets seems to focus on filling in a card for each price gap.
Ugh, OK.
Thanks for replying anyway, I'll have to concider buying the 5870, no I'm not a troll I'm just over paranoid x.x
You don't need to consider anything. If it fits into your motherboard (which it will) it will work.
Mobo chipset:NVIDIA nForce 750i SLI
You have a good chance of pnly being able to SLI Nvidia cards and not Crossifre ATI cards.
Meaning that with ati you can have just 1 card while with nvidia you can have 2.
I would still reccomend the 5870.
