My brother handed me a USB stick that is on its way out. Here is the information that I can tell you
- USB does show up in My Computer (also Disk Management), although transparent
- Space is 0 bytes
- Can't error check, format
I'd really like to get this fixed for him as the files are pretty important to him. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
I understand it is probably on its last legs, but I read that its not fully dead until it stops showing up.

Sorry didnt read you needed the files. Try googling for recovery progams then.
The HP tool recognizes the drive but is having a tough time formatting the drive.
Most of the time I get :
"IOCTL_GET_DRIVE_GEOMETRY : The device is not ready"
or
If I run "HPUSBF F: -Q"
"\\.\ PhysicalDrive1 is not ready"
Give it a try with Grub/Linux Live CD. You might be able to recover it off that way.
Is this it?
Yup, get recsatux, I've used it before and its good, you might be able to fix the partition or format it from there.
Thanks man, I'll give it a go and see how it works out
