• Computer not booting to Windows or Install CD after brownout
    4 replies, posted
Hey, I recently had a brownout in my area, and the following morning, my computer would get stuck in a infinite loop when I tried booting normally or reinstalling windows. (I don't have a backup disc, sadly) When I try to boot to safe mode, it pauses at a file called (I believe) "crcdisc.sys". Any idea what the problem is?
Your computer could be fucked. Brownouts are hell on electronic circuits.
Run memtest see if your RAM is fried.
Doesn't having Active PFC fix brownouts or am I thinking of something else.

(i.e. your house doesn't receive 115V but instead 60V, causing lights and resistive stuff to glow brown. Electronics hate this stuff, because it's usually preceded by a huge voltage spike, along the lines of 130V, unless you're in a different country)
