• Share files between 2 computers on same network?
    10 replies, posted
I have a PC with Windows XP connected via RJ45 to my router, and I want to transfer several gigs of media to my laptop with Windows Vista connected via wireless to the same router. Is it possible to share, for example, the My Music folder contents, and if so, is there a simple guide to doing so? I've never done this before, so I am rather clueless. Thanks.
I also need some help with this. Please help.
Right click on folder>Share>Follow the prompts Then on the other computer: My network places>Computers near me (Or something similar)>Find the computer>Find the shared folder. That's just from memory, so it might not go exactly like that, but give it a shot. Edit: Also, go to My computer properties and make sure both computers have the same workgroup name. If not, just change one to make it the same as the other one.
Or you could just use \\COMPUTERNAME\C$ to access the C: drive.
Set up a home group in the network control panel.
Make sure you are in the same workgroup by looking in the system settings: go to 'My Computer' > click 'tools' at the top > Click 'Map network drive..' > Click 'browse...' in that window > Wait for it to load, it's looking for the computers within your LAN and workgroup > click thier PC once it's loaded and look for the folder you want to share between > Click Ok > Click finish on the window before that. Now it should be listed where your Hard drive is listed. I think that is how it is anyway.
Or you could just use \\COMPUTERNAME\C$ to access the C: drive.
that requires losing a lot of security on your network, sharing the root of the drive that is better just to share the music folder as something then you can navigate to it the same way using either \\computername\share \\computerslocalIP\share

I just navigate through My Network Places to the desired PC, and make shortcuts to the desktops of all the PCs on my network. Then i can share files to the desktop, and move them where they belong later.
