• PSU dead?

I just got back from a week long vacation to find that my computer isn't turn on at all. Not a single light or fan. I've trying unplugging and replugging everything. There was some bad weather while I was gone, but power outages before, it was plugged into a surge protector, and non of the clocks in the house seem to have reset anyway. The power supply is a Sea sonic x series that's about six months old. I built it myself, but I don't really feel up to the task of finding out what the problem is, sending the warranty in, etc, so I'm considering just dropping it off at a repair place. My only concern about that is I've heard a lot of dodgy things sometimes go on with employees snooping around your computer.
Try jump starting it with a paperclip: http://seasonicusa.com/RMABeta/JumpStart/JS.pdf

You should always try to fix the problem yourself, a repair shop should be a last last last last resort. I've run a small honest PC repair business out of my garage for years and I get customers from other "official" computer repair shops (ie. brick and mortar stores) around town and there's no end to horror stories I hear from them, and even more that I find when I look at their machines. The most common thing I see is hardware theft. Things like replacing a high end video card with a shit one (because most customers don't game and can't immediately tell the difference) or stealing RAM, drives or other cards. Another thing I frequently see is improperly installed parts. Like heatsinks on the CPU held on just by the thermal paste, cables plugged in wrong, wrong types of screws used, etc. And there's also the software side too. I frequently get machines that have had the Windows key snarfed (or other expensive software like 3ds Max, Photoshop, etc.) A couple have even had hidden VNC servers with "E.T. Phone Home" functionality, and it wasn't for remote support either, purely spying. There are probably at least a few honest repair shops out there, but I have yet to see one.

Okay, I did the Jumpstart thing, and the fan came on, so I'm guessing it's the motherboard?
Try unplugging anything in the PCI slots and all your drives and starting the computer by paperclip to the front panel pins labeled PWRSW and GND / PRWSW- I've had my GPU shit out on me like that and sometimes the power button just comes unplugged or something
I already tried the onboard power button if that helps. I'll try removing the GPU tomorrow
Okay, took the GPU out, and it turned on. [editline]30th June 2013[/editline] Yep, definitely seems to be the graphics card. Don't know if it's dead or not, but nothing turns on when it's plugged into the PSU. Don't know why it stopped working. it had two six pin slots plugged into one socket on the PSU, which I was told wasn't a problem, and it was plugged into a six pin socket for SATA/IDE power instead of the 8 pin PCI one, so I don't know if that did something, but either way it worked for six months and died while it was turned off for a week.
So the Sapphire warranty site tells me to go to the retailer to take to care of the warranty, and the Newegg tells me to go to the manufacturer site...
So the Sapphire warranty site tells me to go to the retailer to take to care of the warranty, and the Newegg tells me to go to the manufacturer site...
Sapphire gave me the run around with my 6970 but I eventually got them to do an RMA for me. But yeah, that contradiction put me off dealing with them again because of the hassle.
Make sure it is properly seated. I have had my pc freak out because my GPU wasnt seated well before. Depending on the motherboard, it could just not turn on, or do what mine does, spin up all the fans to 100% then reset every 5 seconds.
I restated it and tried the other slot. Same deal.
