The plane I took to get back from Japan to Europe had in flight Internet, sadly only by cable. Seeing as this could be implemented as soon as next year I will probably be able to use WiFi the next time I fly :v:
yeah it'll probably only be available to the guys who pay top buck for premier seats.
Dirty economy class peasants get nothing

No you still get it. Whenever I fly with AA in an economy seat, we get to use GoGo inflight. However it's as slow as a 1Mbps connection. Terribly high ping as well.

A while back when airlines had just put those little personal TV screens on the back of the seats, it used to be that first class guys got it and no one else did. That changed fairly quickly, and now pretty much everyone gets them.
So I'm sure economy class will get this too.

um 1 mbps, I'd kill for speeds like that
I usually get 0.03 Mbps and I'm not even thousands of feet in the air.
As for the ping, usually >2500ms
might buy tickets for the internet

It'll probably still take time though. There are more people in economy class, mind, so they'll have to implement even more robust hardware to deal with the increased load.

Last time I flew with Lufthansa, it didn't matter in which class were you seated. You paid with you credit card and thats it.
If they were to restrict high-speed access to higher classes, the revenue (from passengers who upgraded their tickets just because of the wifi) would not cover the loss from passengers who would like to pay separately for it on lower class, but could not.
Delta has GoGo inflight. 1mbps is the usual speed.
I wish the plane I have to take in a few hours has some sort of internet connection.
