-snip- [editline]18th May 2013[/editline] Well I guess Valve wants money from the cards as well.
Christ, they're using a pre-release image from the beta. It's been six years, update your damn stock images.
Christ, they're using a pre-release image from the beta. It's been six years, update your damn stock images.
nah even the beta didn't even look like that. this is like in-house testing
That's from before the beta alright, look at the cel shading. I know PCGamesN people read here, so yeah you should update your pictures so you have a screenshot of what the "new and improved free to play TF2" looks like it should include at least three and a half eyesore cosmetics, and just tons of unusual particles
I'm still confused about this drop limit... when does it reset?
I'm still confused about this drop limit... when does it reset?
It doesn't. If you want a full set you gotta trade.
This is the first move from valve that I can officially say is wrong. I get using trading and cosmetics to keep a franchise alive but, why this? I mean, it would make sense to have a drop rate reset every once and a while, THEN I would understand why they would make that decision, but we literally have no way of enjoying this card game without losing something first.

Valve makes more money, people have fun trading and collecting, people get to customize their steam profiles more. and honestly this last update has made steam more stable for me.
It doesn't. If you want a full set you gotta trade.
Yeah that's what's still kinda confusing me. Say there's 8 card slots for HL2. You can only earn 4. To trade for another 4 you'll have to play another game. THEN you can craft your HL2 badge from the full set of cards. But then you don't have any cards for that second game. You can pull that stunt for as many games as you have, but you'll never have enough cards to complete your collection. Unless, so it seems, you purchase $10 worth of F2P items. So if you want a full collection you'll need $40*n where n is the number of games with trading card support. And that's not even accounting the market insanity that will no doubt follow the introduction of cosmetic upgrades that drop upon completing a set, or the ability to upgrade a badge by crafting another one of the same kind - with a new set of cards that could cost you ~$80 if you can't trade in spare cards. I had a completely different view of this, I thought it would be something achievement-like like the Pillar of Community badge. But nope, it's to increase F2P revenue. Oh boy I hope I misread the FAQ. I mean it doesn't affect my gaming experience, but it does create a pretty sour taste in my mouth for Steam.
Or sell TF2/other games/use leftover steam wallet money. It's not like the cards cost much
They probably won't when everyone can still easily get 4 cards for a good number of games, but after that initial farming they'll only diminish in numbers due to crafting - whereas random drops happen all the time. So right now they should be pretty damn cheap since everyone that could use them can also get a whole bunch of them himself. Right? IIRC TF2 actually has something of a "metal inflation" because of that. Not nearly deep enough in that business to make any qualified commentary tho.
I'd love to take you up on that Valve, but Nexon seems to have a boner for banning me from maplestory. Seriously, bastards have permabanned not one but 3 separate accounts. Oh well, this is cool for those who play TF2, more shit to collect.
Alright, maybe I'm overreacting. I can see where they are coming from with this, its just that it's only gonna work if enough games have this system, That way more people can trade x for y. It's just that there aren't a lot of games with it so it's really hard to build up a set, but even then you are just hoping for a foil card, because you are still buying more things to get things. I guess it's like the promo hats. Some people will buy the game for the game, others for the hat. This is kinda the same case except much more expendable. Like I said it would only work if enough games use the system. so really it's not a game, it's like candy machine which comes with a game you buy. ...with a guaranteed set amount of wins and a chance of getting something good... Ugh.
Seems like a cashgrab with a system like that.
Seems like a cashgrab with a system like that.
Yeah it does but what do you expect they are a business. They can do a lot worse that's for sure.
Seems like a cashgrab with a system like that.
you pay cash for one product, you get a bonus product you weren't anticipating to get, I don't see anything cash grabby about that
Seems a bit scummy ruining the profile page and requiring users to reach level 10 to get the same amount of space as we had before. Naturally if you paid for cards with the Valve tax you can reach higher levels quicker while most long-term users aren't even close to unlocking their first 'showcase' option.
Seems a bit scummy ruining the profile page and requiring users to reach level 10 to get the same amount of space as we had before.
What the hell are you talking about? You still have the same space, except now you get more, and backgrounds and custom emotes.
Christ, they're using a pre-release image from the beta. It's been six years, update your damn stock images.
No difference, just add a few hats and stupid crap here and there and you get modern TF2.
What the hell are you talking about? You still have the same space, except now you get more, and backgrounds and custom emotes.
You're limited to 4 lines of text visible on the profile page if you aren't level 10, if you have a larger description it gets limited to 3 lines because the "View more info" button takes a line out of your space. I am level 10 so I know about the showcase option that allows a custom info box which people can fill to their hearts content, it's just bad that most users aren't going to be able to use this feature because they locked it to a much higher level than it should be.
Wait, I don't get it, so if you buy something that costs 9$ in either TF2 or Dota 2, you'll get an instant card drop? Or it'll count as "yet to drop"? What if you spent more than 9$ before the update?
Well that's bullshit since i've spent well over $9 in Dota2 and I got only 4 cards. Dont feel like trading around for shitty cards to make my epenis bigger anyway thogh i solt my invites to the trading card thing and bought a cool profile background for my page which is nice. This new community is great because it gets rid of those ghastly walls of texts and epik quotes from friends nobody cares about that people have on their walls and information about your fursona and rp interests
Wait, I don't get it, so if you buy something that costs 9$ in either TF2 or Dota 2, you'll get an instant card drop? Or it'll count as "yet to drop"? What if you spent more than 9$ before the update?
If you bought TF2 before the F2P update you get your 4 card drops that will occur while you have the game running. For every $9 in the store you get another card drop that will be picked up while the game is running. This means if you spend $17 you will get one card, but you won't get your second until you spend another dollar. [editline]17th May 2013[/editline] Nobody is being forced to use the trading cards and you certainly aren't being forced to buy them. They're just a bonus for playing and buying items in games.
