• Planning on upgrading from a 250 GTS to a GTX 460 - Will my board bottleneck?

As the title suggests, I'm planning on going from a GTS 250 1GB to a GTX 460 1GB (Exact card here.) I'm currently running an Asus p5kpl-cm Micro-ATX motherboard (Though I plan to upgrade to an Asus "Maximum IV Extreme Motheboard" and an i7 2600k (Sandybridge) in a few months.) My CPU is a Core2Duo E8400 running at 3.0GHz (There's a little space for overclocking.) Should I wait or is there enough wiggle room to slap this card in and hope for the best? Full specs are as follows; -Corsair H80 water cooling on the CPU -[del]GTS 250 1GB Graphics Card[/del] -Intel Core2Duo E8400 CPU -Asus P5kPL-CM Motherboard (Micro ATX, cute eh?) -RAIDMAX Tornado ATX Mid Tower Case -4Gbs of DDR2 Memory (I don't know what it's rate is, nor what it's called) -Windows 7 64bit (If this matters) (Hard drives not listed, as it isn't necessary information.) Bottom line; Would I see a realistic performance increase in any way shape or form, or would this just end up being a waste of money?
Yes you will have increased performance :v:
And my board wont bottleneck it or anything? It's not exactly top of the line hardware. :v:
Not at all.
Your board doesn't matter that much, Its mainly your CPU and sometimes your RAM, I may be wrong though but more than likely it wont do anything. Also I would buy from newegg cause you can get that exact card for $150 and for $200 you could get a 560 and for $230 you could get a 560 ti, Plus tigerdirect is in more than just 1 state so if you live in one of those states where they will charge you tax you'll be paying a bit more. Also more than likely you can run a 460 since you are running a 250 but what is your PSU?
Buy this, quite a bit more powerful for cheaper. http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1006280&CatId=3669 Or spend a bit more and get a 560 Ti.
If you're willing to spend 200 on a 460 then your more then likely going to be able to spend 220 on the 560 TI http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814125401 Also if you are just going to get the 460 here you go, http://www.newegg.ca/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130570 [editline]8th November 2011[/editline] Also that is newegg canada so you should be able to order from there.
Getting a 460 right now that costs more than $120 is a big mistake, there's so much better in the $160-$200 price range.
Is a 560 Ti really that much better? Well sure then, I'll pour some cash into the 560 Ti and that'll be that. Thanks guys! Would a moderator please close the thread now?
Much better, and a moderator won't close the thread, just don't post. Although your E8400 will probably bottleneck the 560 Ti on a few games but for the most part you'll be ok, then when you get your 2600k you'll be blown away.
I'd like to chime in. The 460's are really great. I have 2 being SLI'd right now and I haven't encountered any problems yet. Smooth and max settings. The 560TI will probably be better however if you're only dealing with 1 card.
