• Will these parts work?

I am looking to get a new system for myself that is a bit more up to date and futureproof, especially since i have found myself more interested in the recent games. Also, just itching to build myself one and be proud of it. My computer hardware knowledge has been stuck in the PIII and P4 era, so i am not quite up to date on the modern hardware. I have also never built a modern system completely from scratch before (my current was custom built for me). I have created a list of parts that were around what I was looking for, but I don't know if they are the best or even if they will even work together. Case: LIAN LI PC-A71F http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811112244 Power: COOLER MASTER Silent Pro M700 RS-700-AMBA-D3 700W http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817171037 CPU: Intel Core i7-920 Bloomfield 2.66GHz Quad-Core Processor http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115202 Motherboard: EVGA 141-BL-E757-TR LGA http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16813188049 Cooler: ZALMAN CNPS9900 NT http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835118054 RAM: Mushkin Enhanced Blackline 6GB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820226028 Hard drive: Western Digital VelociRaptor WD1500HLFS 150GB x2 or 3 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136296 Graphics: EVGA 012-P3-1472-AR GeForce GTX 470 (Fermi) SuperClocked http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130549 Sound: I don't have anything chosen. I like my Audigy 2 ZS, but I would like to have functioning front jacks. Card Reader: AFT XM5U All-in-one http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820176012 OS: Microsoft Windows 7 Home Premium Full http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16832116716 I hope these links didn't explode (new to posting here). I haven't tallied the price for these items, but I don't want to pay a large price for a new system (US$3000). Any suggestions on whether these are good parts or what would be better and why? If you are curious, here is what i currently have: Cooler Master Cavalier 1 Antec True550 550W Asus A8N-SLI Deluxe AMD Athlon 64 4000+ @2.59GHz Thermaltake Silent Boost cooler G-Skill NS DDR PC 3200 @2.5-3-3-6 2.5V 4GB (2GB recognize) 2x Seagate Barracuda SATA 200GB Raid 0 total 380GB (140GB used) 2x GeForce 9800 GT (MSI n9800gt) SLI Creative Audigy 2 ZS Windows XP home SP3 Tried to upgrade, but found some parts that could no longer be upgraded, so it's a bit lopsided and annoying.
Yea, The CPU and ram are going to fit in for sure but I'm not sure about the power supply, thats all that I am unsure of, wait for some more opinions or try the Antec PSU calculator.
What kind of stuff do you do on your pc? because an i7 would not really be needed for some gaming etc. An i7 is really only needed if you are doing folding and compiling and such. I do not fully understand why you are going for 2 or 3 Western Digital VelociRaptor because if you are looking for speed easily the best thing is going to be SSD.

Also, i believe this particular i7 was only like $30 more than the i5. Though, during the cooler parts of the year, i do run a few processes on BOINC. As for the hard drives, I am looking for a bit more speed, yes, but the price of the SSD vs the amount of space you get seems a bit steep to me. Also, I don't know much about them and therefore don't really 'trust' them if you understand what i mean.
I was hoping this thread wouldn't die before i got many suggestions. Looked at the power supply calculator, and it recommended at least a 480W for my setup. 630W if i ever decide in the future to add in a second gpu. So, is the 700W i have chosen still worth getting for future upgrades? I also decided to look into SSDs. Apparently they have proven themselves to be reliable and long lasting. I originally didn't understand how i could use them with the affordable ones being so small, but i've read that most install the OS and what ever programs they wish to go fast onto the SSD and then put user files and other programs on a larger regular hard drive. So, something like the following pair may be what I should look into: Intel X25-M Mainstream SSDSA2MH080G2R5 2.5" 80GB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820167023 Western Digital AV-GP WD5000AVDS 500GB http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136497 Any further suggestions for better parts? Thanks
