Ive been looking to get a laptop basically as a portable windows PC. While my smartphone (Galaxy Neuxs) is great for all kinds of things I wanted something with Windows on it... Just because it does... Windows stuff... Like crash, bsod, and break oh and... games and programming.
So I was looking at netbooks. I already have a ASUS EEE PC 900 that runs Linux. It comes stock at 600mhz ... and 1gb of ram and the SSD runs at something horrible like 3 bytes per second. So yeah its pretty shitty.
I remember going to the Sony Style store in Annapolis Mall (the store closed now and its a store for purses for guys or something) and seeing those little netbooks and was like OMG SO COOL but they were around 1000-1500 dollars a year ago. Sony discontinued making them becuase they were expensive and not many people bought them. Well I found them on ebay for about 500-600 and worked a guy down to 300 and bought one.
I got a VGN-P698E which packs 2GB Ram and an Intel Atom z530 @ 1.6ghz. Also has bluetooth, gps, webcam, and a ultra bright LED screen.
All models have a intel GMA500 graphics card.
I also messaged 2 guys on ebay and tried working them both down to 300. I did for the one guy and bought it. The other I got down to around 300 maybe 250 but $40 in shipping (its coming from Jamaica). I told him I already bought one but if anyone else I knew wanted one Id send them his way. So if anyone is interested let me know.
These computers come with Vista but can be upgraded to 7 pretty easily.
Also seems these can be overclocked... http://www.pocketables.com/forum//showthread.php?t=2175
What do you guys think? Neat toy? Practical for a casual mobile computer? Overpriced?
Well all the reviews I've seen of it so far rated it as a mediocre machine, but sometimes also classed it as slightly crappy compared to the competition.
You're really paying for the design with that machine, but since it's used, I can't tell if it's a good deal or not.
Yeah id never pay anything more then 500. 300 hurt. But Im going to sell the EEE and a Lumix camera so it feels like more of an upgrade. I really do like the design so I guess your right. I love how I can put it in my pocket even. (I have big pockets)
