Yeah the results are absolutely retarded just as expected
The Majority of steam users were probably born in the last 15 years
I find it funny and sad that Stardew Valley, the only nominee where farm animals are used for mostly their intended purpose, lost to Goat Simulator, where you could replace all references to goats with anything and get the same result.
Also, GMod losing to GTAV seems wrong.
absolute horseshit every single one
skyrim won the test of time lol
It wasn't THAT great even at release.
It was pretty, but it was no Crysis. THAT, imo, stands the test of time better.
csgo just five more minutes? Why not give that to Skyrim, or better yet, Witcher 3, or GTAV or something more of an open world game with lots of neat stuff, instead of a game that can make you rage into an axe wielding rampage?
GTAV game within a game? Again, wheres witcher 3 and gwent which everyone apparently loved, or, say, GMOD, that has a fuckton of different gamemodes within itself? And why the "woah dude" award aswell? It has some neat stuff, but its not that amazing. Its essentially Heat, but in flamboyant video game version.
Skyrim the test of time award?
Seriously?
I'm still a bit salty about the "I thought this game was cool before it one an award" award.
I imagine it'd probably be a lot better if it was hand-picked by Steam forum moderators rather than leave it to community vote. While I do understand that the nominees are from indie developers, we're talking like "Jones Soda" levels of indie rather than say "The Pop Shoppe" or "Rocketfizz" levels of indie.
Heck, i'm sure all of Facepunch can write a list of unknown games that are actually really good
The test of time award didn't have to be an old game.
Still loses IMO.
I just find doing those copy pasted dungeons extremely boring after 200 to 300 hours in it.
Game within a game: GTAV? What?
skyrim won the test of time lol
i'd argue it aged pretty fucking badly in just five years to be honest
Game within a game: GTAV? What?
i think it had a golfing minigame or something
Villain Most In Need Of A Hug - Portal 2 - I agree.
I Thought This Game Was Cool Before It Won An Award - Eurotruck Simulator 2, even American truck Simulator fits here, I agree.
The “Test of Time” Award - Skyrim - Wrong, this title goes to AoE2 all the way, I didn't even expect a revival to that game series.
The “Just 5 More Minutes” Award - CS:GO - Sure I guess, also applies to Dota2.
The “Whoooaaaaaaa, dude!” Award: - GTA V - Definitely.
The “Game Within A Game” Award: - GTA V - What the fuck no, Gmod deserves this all the way. (Even zombie master got a revival through it)
The “I'm Not Crying, There's Something In My Eye” Award: The Walking Dead - I wish I could say something about this, but my interest in zombie related games are almost bar to none, I'll just plug in Undertale just because.
The “Best Use Of A Farm Animal” Award: Goat Simulator - wAOw
The "Boom Boom" Award: Doom - Fuck you for making that pun, I'll say Just Cause 3 instead.
The "Love/Hate Relationship" Award: Dark Souls - Yep.
This user has died before attempting to even care about the last awards.
Skyrim aged horribly, thanks to the awful piece of shit engine. Even Fallout 4 will age horribly.
It just won because it was the most popular one. And I'm not talking about just the graphics, the game aged horribly because they couldn't do more gameplay-wise thanks to it.

that goes for every winner there I think
AoE2 could have won I Thought This Game Was Cool Before It Won An Award too ya know.
If we're to talk about personal nominations...
• Villain Most in Need of a Hug: Tales of Symphonia (Yes, the port sucks, but those who played the original GameCube game will know exactly why. Those who haven't... I'd have to spoil the game)
• I thought this game was cool before it won an award: Age of Wonders 3 (Bringing a Win9x game back from the dead won't win any popularity contests (XCOM is an isolated scenario), and a game like AoW3 proves that a really good 4X/RPG hybrid with battles having their own dedicated combat UI proves that sometimes, you just can't sell a game purely on merit.)
• Test of Time: Probably a tough choice. Probably a tie between Age of Empires 2 and the original Half-Life 2. AoE2 for being a 1999 game still in active development and with a large player base. Meanwhile, if you look at Half-Life 2 from a technological standpoint, the visual feats will likely need their own bullet points
• Just Five More Minutes: XCOM: Enemy Within. Getting into the game isn't all that easy, though when you learn the game's quirks, you will eventually find yourself in a position where you tell yourself "just one more mission" until the sun starts shining.
• WOAH DUDE: I don't even get what the point of this award is. I thought it was just something that is extremely good at kicking names and taking ass, so I figured Doom would've been a good nominee.
• Game within a game: Garry's Mod, due to the crazy things you can do with Lua coding.
• I'm not crying, there's something in my eye: Agreeing with TWD, though i'm surprised it beat Undertale, being a game developed by a company who's target audience consists of 90s kids who grew up with LucasArts adventures like Sam & Max Hit the Road, Full Throttle, etc.
I am more amazed that Civilization didn't win "Just five more minutes"...you know the game that one of most famous catch phrases is "just one more turn"...
It's just a popularity contest, that's all. That's why games like CS:GO, Skyrim and GTA V won.
Is skyrim a retro game now
Terrible and predictable.
Apparently, people now have "nostalgia" for games which came out only 5 years ago.
Fucking serious? Not even Don't starve? I'm just so.... not surprised. Goddamn.
At least DOOM won something. It doesn't really have that fantastic of explosions (unless you count shotgunning demons into bloody chunks, then it's great) but I'm glad to see it got some props.
GTAV and Skyrim winning are some bullshit though
I think the description for Test of Time makes the skyrim pick have a little more sense.
Newer games may come out, but it doesn’t matter…
you’ll always come back to play this one.
Skyrim had a large, consistent playerbase and a very active modding/reddit community all the way since release until today. You can't say that's true of any other nominee.

If we're to go by the description, Doom 2: Hell on Earth would beat Skyrim hands down. Considering that it's a 22 year old game with a still-active modding scene thanks to regular updates to the zDoom source port... Hell, i'm actually surprised how big the DECORATE (zDoom's programming language) modding scene is.

my 17 year old cousin feels nostalgic about fallout 3 and im only 25 but that feels weird feeling old
my 17 year old cousin feels nostalgic about fallout 3 and im only 25 but that feels weird feeling old
At least fallout 3 came out more than five years ago. There probably isn't an official minimum age for something to be socially acceptable to be nostalgic over, but I feel that if there was, it would be higher than five years.

Or Witcher 3.
What a fucking joke. Valve should feel ashamed of themselves.
