Friend's computer being unstable, randomly dropping wireless internet connection.

His computer is a Dell, I don't know what model it is, but it is a desktop. I don't know if I am accurate about this:
i5-650 or 760
8GB Memory
1TB Hard Drive
EVGA nVidia GTS450
Windows 7 Home Premium
His problems started with his computer's wireless card started crapping itself when he does anything other than browsing the internet. For a while he would just drop out, and the connection would just become LAN until he restarted. He apparantly fixed this by throwing his router(?) across his house. His internet connection still drops enough to be kicked offline for a few seconds, but not completely. This is not a huge issue for him, it's just annoying.
The main problem he has is that his computer will just shut itself off randomly. He said that this happens mostly while watching videos on YouTube. He also said that the steam overlay took too long to come up, and booting was slow for him. I suggested he removed 2GB of his memory, and his computer was fast for a while. The next day the problem came back, he removed 2GB more and it went away. He noted that the two sticks were different brands (some Japanese brands, can't remember). Now he is down to 4GB and his computer is fast, but he notes that the computer just goes "BZZZZZTTTTTTTT" and freezes for a few seconds and works again. I image that "BZZTTT" sound is what you hear when whatever your listening too stops working, but whatever he is doing is unaffected at all. He will just disconnect from steam and come back online.
I am stumped, other than the memory being different brands I cannot figure this out. He is using two of the same brand right now. Any help?
It could be one of three things:
1) The hard drive is failing and causing Windows to freeze because Windows is attempting to read some OS file from a damaged part of the hard drive.
2) Bad RAM is causing application glitches.
3) General hardware failure (probably bad PSU or motherboard) I wouldn't be surprised if it was this, Dell makes shitty hardware and uses shitty parts in cases where they don't make the part they need.
Yeah you should only use the same brand of ram for the computer that could have been causing a few problems, how ever it could be the hard drive going bad.

He replaced the PSU when he got a GTS450. I should note that he used to use a GT220, but I convinced him it was utter shit.

Just because he installed a different PSU doesn't mean it hasn't gone bad or is garbage to begin with.
What kind of PSU is it? Is it one of those shitty $20 wofat noname brands?

He never told me, I will ask him when he gets online again. I also just remebered ANOTHER problem he has; his second screen does not go higher than 1280x720 when it used to go 1080p. I imagine he also has more problems than this that I have forgotten.
