• Second monitor not detected by PC (D-sub cable)

I just got a second monitor today and I did what one would do when setting it up. Plug it in. However, I have no DVI cables so I had to use a D-sub cable with an adapter on it to connect it to my PC. The screen works, but it can't recognize the PC and the PC can't recognize it. What could the problem be? It's a BenQ T2200HD which I'm trying to connect to a 6850 HD.
What do you mean? If it works, it works.
Poorly worded of me. I was trying to say that the screen is fine and it works, but it doesn't recognize the PC, aka "No signal".
Look in the screen resolution settings...
I've checked all of these settings, and as I said in the OP, the PC doesn't recognize the screen. I can't find it in Catalyst or Windows.
Try swapping the connectors. It looks like the 6850 only provides analog output on one of the DVI ports. (You should get a DVI cable though, VGA doesn't always work well at higher resolutions)
I would think too you just need to swap connections. You probably have DVI-D and DVI-I out, try one of these.
By swapping connections, do you guys mean to just change where the cable goes, and exchange their position with each other? I tried that and it works fine on my primary screen but my second is still black. I'll be getting a free pair of DVI cables on Monday, so it would be awesome to have a temporary solution until then. I'm itching to try a secondary monitor set up.
Swapping connections is, connecting the DVI-VGA adapter to a other DVI port on your GPU
Alright, so I did it correctly. It still doesn't work though. Primary screen works fine on both ports, if that is usable information.
Maybe the DVI-D-SUB connector is simply ruined. You better search for a other one, like the adapter that came with your GPU.
I've tried two DVI-D-SUB connectors and a cable with one DVI-D end and one SUB end, no dice with any of these.
Do you have a video port on your motherboard you can test out the monitor on?
Nope.
You don't have any DVI cable around? It's very strange it doesn't work on you, I got a DVI-D-SUB adapter and it's working fine for this 19'' monitor. What connection does your primairy monitor have? Try that connection for shits and giggles.
My primary monitor is connected with DVI. I tried to switch cables between the second and the primary, and guess what, it works fine.
Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.... Have you tried to switch source on the Benq? Usually these things don't have a auto detect function.
Yup. I've changed source on the screen, no dice.
Do you know for sure that the monitor works? [editline]2nd June 2013[/editline] The inputs could be bad.
Yup. I tried the DVI cable which I use for my primary monitor and it works fine.
Oh, miss read your post then. Maybe the cable or adapter is bad then. :v:
I've tried two different cables and three different adapters. :suicide:
Maybe the monitor just hates you
I think that is my case. I'm getting a free DVI cable from my step father tomorrow, so I suppose it'll work just fine when I finally get that cable.
