Rip off it may be, but it's a fun way to waste a few hours. But, apart from prettier graphics, it's much simpler than Game Dev Story.

The dev didn't come right out and say piracy hurt their game. I think I remember them saying 98% of the copies that were being played were pirated, apparently it did some sort of online check.
Then it was programmed to never be finishable due to piracy in the game itself. You would go out of business.
