• Need a good build for normal gaming

I'm looking for a build that's like my current build that gives me good framerates in Crysis and Warhead(all in Medium graphics) and Mirror's Edge. Now I'm not someone that likes spending a shitload of cash on a build I have no need for. At least a $500-$700 build should be enough for me. I think that's how much I paid for my hardware upgrade. $1,000+ is just too much. Sure, $1,000 or more will definitely give me the freedom to do whatever I want with my computer. But I don't NEED something that powerful. Not even in the future. I'm not a hardcore gamer or an overclocker. As long as games with their system requirements stay below my CPU and RAM I should be OK. Right? The reason I don't need a high end gaming computer is because I'm used to running my games in 800x600. That's a comfortable resolution for me. Anyway, could anyone suggest me a build? I just need something that will give me the same framerates, if not a little better. I don't have any money, as I don't know how much I need to save. I just need a base first. The reason I'm having to get a new build is I'm being forced thanks to that damn lock up issue. I have no choice but to get a new build. This hardware isn't even a year old yet. Here's my current build; MAIN HARDWARE Case: Unknown. It kinda looks like an old Alienware case. Thinking of getting an Antec 9000. PSU: Antec GreenWatts 650W (salvagable.. maybe) GPU: XFX Geforce 9500GT (Looking for a Geforce GTX model card, not interested in ATi) Audio: Siig SoundWave 7.1 PCI (will settle with onboard audio to keep cost down. Not into surround sound gaming) Motherboard: Gigabyte GA-MA74GM-S2 (Rev 1.0) Memory: Kingston 2GB DDR-2 (unknown of speed, thinking of getting another stick) Storage; Primary HDD: Seagate 160GB SATA (salvagable) Secondary HDD: Western Digital(I think...) 250GB EIDE (want to upgrade to a SATA drive) External HDD: Seagate Go 160GB USB (salvagable) CD Drive: LG DVD-RW (all I know about it) (salvagable) Floppy Drive: Standard 3&1/2 Floppy Drive (salvagable, if compatible with case) OTHER CRAP OS: Windows XP Home SP3 (salvagable) Keyboard: Standard USB Keyboard (salvagable) Mouse: Standard USB Mouse (salvagable) Speakers: JBL Pro (all I know about them) (salvagable) Monitors; (salvagable) Primary: Arnos Instruments H-W19 19" Wide Screen Secondary: Hitachi/HINT X93W D-Sub 19" Wide Screen So can anyone help me make a good decision? Facepunch is the only hope I got now. Pathetic, but I don't see any better option.
No.
Don't post if you can't help then. I'm a nvidia fanboy all the way.
If you think you know better than us build it yourself.
Well I'd really prefer to stick with Nvidia.. I've read bad reviews of ATi cards.
No, cutting out 50% of your options for graphics card is stupid. [editline]04:54AM[/editline]
Well I'd really prefer to stick with Nvidia.. I've read bad reviews of ATi cards.
Link me to some. [editline]04:55AM[/editline] And a lot of people in this section have ATI cards, you don't see them complaining.
I just want to stick with Nvidia, damnit! This fight is useless. Why are you such an ATi fanboy?
Why are you such a nvidia fanboy? [editline]05:00AM[/editline] I'm gonna cut this short now before it gets out of hand, good luck on your build.
How about we stop this stupid, old ATI/Nvidia fight and get people in here that will actually help me, and not criticize me for liking nvidia cards? All you're doing is "Dude! ATi is so awesome!" without even trying to help me with the rest of this new build. Now, help or don't post!
Don't post if you can't help then. I'm a nvidia fanboy all the way.
I agree, they hate helping when they see a NVIDIA card, they just whine saying "BADD DEALLL" Anyway, Grab a 9600 GT, it's much faster, i've got it and its fantastic.
Wow. Actual help for once! 9600GT, huh? I've been told on another site about getting a new video card that my best bet would be to get one of the GTS series cards. Like a GTS 250. I don't know if I need something like that though. It's not like I'm going to run multiple games at once.
And come back when you have the money. [editline]05:11AM[/editline] 500$ is enough for Crysis and ME on relatively high settings.
9600GT, huh? I've been told on another site about getting a new video card that my best bet would be to get one of the GTX series cards. Like a GTS 250. I don't know if I need something like that though. It's not like I'm going to run multiple games at once.
FIXED Well, Normal gaming, a 9600 GT does great, It ran Crysis @ High no problems for me. 1680x1050 with a voltmod so my clocks are: 820/2060/1200 (Core/Shader/Memory) If you wanted to be UB3R then of course get a GTS 250, fantastic card. Another 8800 GTS Re branded with a 55nm refresh, as well as a die size change, and you good to go!
Yumy. Just stay out of this thread. You are trolling it.
Yumy. Just stay out of this thread. You are trolling it.
haha, agree'd
I just stated what you wanted to hear, a 500$ computer will play Crysis and ME at medium-high settings.

I guess I won't ruin cherno's fun right now. [editline]05:14AM[/editline] dammit JE broke my automerge

Please, Yumyumbubblegum and John Edwards, please, We know that ATI is a better choice, but this guy wants a NVIDIA card, and you guys need to accept that.
Please, Yumyumbubblegum and John Edwards, please, We know that ATI is a better choice, but this guy wants a NVIDIA card, and you guys need to accept that.
Thank you for the support. Here I'm looking at this thread; http://www.facepunch.com/showthread.php?t=768088 He too wants a Geforce GTS card. How come you guys aren't going after him for making a "bad choice"? Isn't it our right to make our own decisions on what we want? All I want is a lock up-free system. I don't care if it could be better. I just want a nvidia card. That's all. Either support that, or leave. That simple.
Please, Yumyumbubblegum and John Edwards, please, We know that ATI is a better choice, but this guy wants a NVIDIA card, and you guys need to accept that.
then he is dumb if he is going to buy a label and throw money away. hell I don't mind Nvidia I think the GTX275 is a great card but really it is pretty dumb that you would advocate getting a lesser powered card just because its Nvidia [editline]01:20AM[/editline]
Thank you for the support. GTX And because it's a good card and it fit's in his budget nicely. And if you didn't notice we're going after him for being an XP fanboy.

But the OP wants a Nvidia card, like i have stated before, and we have to stand and deliver.
a $700 build can run Crysis on high. with an ATi card....
a $700 build can run Crysis on high. with an ATi card....
Yes indeed of course, we already know that, get out the OP wants a NVIDIA graphics card. [editline]05:22AM[/editline] fuck i typed that fast .__.
Well I'd really prefer to stick with Nvidia.. I've read bad reviews of ATi cards.
ATi are a lot better than they used to be
let's No we don't we can just ignore the thread
I want to help the OP, so go ahead, help somebody else who is willing to be a bit more open.
