Ok so i have windows 7 ultimate 64-bit and i have 6gb of ram installed but system properties says i have 6gb but only 1.5gb can be used see: http://s643.photobucket.com/albums/uu155/apierce1289/?action=view&current=mysystem1.jpg Please help me fix this guys. My mobo is :Evga nforce 730i
It could be some massive integrated usage.
What the dick do you have such a nice motherboard, and such a large amount of ram, if you're going to be running a pentium D?
What the dick do you have such a nice motherboard, and such a large amount of ram, if you're going to be running a Pentium D?
Could that be y is my CPU only can allocate that much? Im getting a new CPU for Christmas: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115036 Will that fix it maybe?
cpu may be bottlenecking your ram
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115037 Get this cpu instead or get a q9550.
Is my cpu really that bad? hehe :( And how much better is the one im getting? Any one know?
get the one i posted -nevermind didn't look at mohterboard specs

You can just overclock this one to the same speeds. Also I didn't recommend an i5 :raise:
Can we get back to the problem at hand and someone help me out?
same price as e8500 q9400 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115131 [editline]08:52PM[/editline] I'm pretty sure your cpu is bottlenecking your ram
The Q9 and E8 series are hella expensive for a dying socket here in the UK, I'd get a Q8300 or a Q9400 at most.
Op pull up the cpu monitor gadget and tell us how much ram is being used on the desktop.
The Q8300 is £101 and the Q9400 is £140 here, sort of a bigger difference. Get the Q9400.
The Q9 and E8 series are hella expensive for a dying socket here in the UK, I'd get a Q8300 or a Q9400 at most.
No. [editline]09:01PM[/editline] Get out really. Q8300 is horrible. Buying it is almost as stupid as buying an E8600.
"Get out." Nice. What's wrong with it exactly?
Ok looked further into it and 4gb is hardware reserved but i want games to be able to use it all :(
Ok looked further into it and 4gb is hardware reserved but i want games to be able to use it all :(
Games use around 2 gigs at max but check your memory usage at the desktop you can do it if you press cntrl+shift+esc then go to performance tab. Then give how much it is using.
total= 1535
total= 1535
What does it say for a percentage.
Physical Memory 72%
Physical Memory 72%
Hmm that means you have about 2 gigs usable. :confused: Not sure.
it's not the CPU.
At first I was going to say 32 bit, now I am confused as fuck.
I fixed it i did some looking around in msconfig and found the BOOT tab and under advanced options there was a MAX MEMORY box checked off and it was set at 2024. so i unchecked the box and vuala. Here's a screen: http://s643.photobucket.com/albums/uu155/apierce1289/?action=view&current=Untitled-1copy.jpg [editline]10:47PM[/editline] Why cant M$ make things easy or at least obvious just think how hard this would be for a normal user thank god we are nerds :D Just took me a while to hunt it down :D [editline]10:49PM[/editline] Someone gave me 2 boxes for my unused ram? y thank you kind sir wouldn't want it to get dusty :D

Your CPU has nothing to do with how much RAM your computer can recognize, that is the motherboard, and the operating system to a degree.
I wonder how that got set but I have to say 6 gigs is a little overkill you really only need 4 and games won't even take all of that.
That's not even close to true. I'm currently running 4gb and I routinely max it out. Between Firefox, Windows itself, and a virtual machine of some form of Linux, I can easily use 4gb. Just because you can't use more than 4gb doesn't mean others can't. Personally, I can't wait til January when I upgrade my system to a quad core and 8gb of RAM. I should hopefully stop maxing out my system then.
Your CPU has nothing to do with how much RAM your computer can recognize, that is the motherboard, and the operating system to a degree.
Uh, no. Your motherboard has to support a CPU that supports 64-bit so you can run a 64-bit OS that supports more than 4GB of RAM. [editline]11:44PM[/editline] In other words, they're all relevant.
