Hello there facepunchers.
My PC is starting to get a bit old, and I think I'll need an upgrade soon. I don't know what to upgrade first though.
Specs:
Core 2 Duo E6600 2,4ghz CPU
8800gt
Asus P5K/EPU motherboard
I've got lots of ram lying around, so that's not a problem.
Country/Budget?
Denmark/300$ at least.
Maybe get a new graphics card. The CPU isn't that bad, but the 8800GT (what I have) is getting kinda bad now.
I remember back then the 8800 was top of the line.

And maybe a power supply or hard drive?
Don't know, that's all I can think of.

it can still hold it's own at 1680x1050, that's anything but "bad"
just because it's older doesn't mean it's worse

I'm comparing it to something like the 5870. It's terrible in comparison, and there's no bias in that since I own the 8800GT

That's not a very good comparison.
It's like comparing a Pentium dual-core to an i5.

I'm not saying it's a good comparison, I'm saying that the 8800GT is a hell of a long way behind now.
Wouldn't a 5870 get bottlenecked by the e6600?
It will, its best to have a cpu at around 3.0 or more.
A 4870 would get bottlenecked too I think.
really save your money for another generation
