Why would someone make a mod that replicates the most tedious and boring part about navigating DC in Fallout 3?
Because this isn't required to navigate Boston.
Artyom!
i actually liked the subway tunnels in 3, especially since after having visited dc, they did a good job at recreating it.

This, plus a mod that brings in STALKER-level difficulty and realism, with an emphasis on RPG-type needs maintenance would get me to buy in. All in all there has never been a Bethesda game that has been challenging or immersive enough for me without mods which drastically up the count of the AI and push the difficulty to where it borders realism, in that both you and the enemy die from an equal number of blows or hits, given that you are of the same species. By the time I get half of the way through any Bethesda game, I'm practically dozing in the saddle due to the absolute lack of challenge both intellectually and in terms of game-play that is going on in the world. As THE Textbook example, Skyrim only has one puzzle. The "Rotate the tumblers until the pictures match" one, which one can find in any preschool or kindergarten. Everything is designed with padded and rounded edges so that no player could possibly come up against something which might have a chance of being too challenging to beat on the first try. The last game since Fall Out 2 to keep me playing Vanilla for the longest was New Vegas, and that was simply due to the world-building and factions being interesting enough to warrant exploring rather than feeling like theme-park decorations. Even New Vegas suffers from massive difficulty drop-off as the player character levels up.
Speaking of this, what kind of mods for FO4 make it grittier and more akin to Metro?
The vanilla survival mode
The vanilla survival mode
True. I'm gonna pick the game up next time it's on sale
The vanilla survival mode
Is it anything like New Vegas's "Survival Mode," in that you open it expecting to have to try to survive and discover that you only need to try to remember to drink water every ten days or suffer a minor stat detriment?

i've been playing with survival mode recently, it's hit & miss the sleep-only saving mechanic simultaneously makes it really tense but also makes me alt-f4 out if i haven't been able to find a mattress or sleeping bag for two hours and get instakilled while wearing power armor by a raider with a tire iron it also kinda forces you to play the classic bethesda sneaky sniper way since if you fight a group you're absolutely fucked. you could spec explosives but seeing how buggy the physics are i wouldn't recommend it. i recommend getting something that adds a sleeping bag you can carry around, and something to nerf settlements (or just don't use them, since you can get infinite purified water etc easily). there's mods to tailor the difficulty to your liking but i couldn't get them to work, and honestly i don't trust myself not to cheat anyway.

Almost every single thing will make you more thirsty, to the point where if you down some buffout and use two stimpacks during a battle, you will need four bottles of water at least.
