I used to love Runescape because it was something unique in the genre; you did what you wanted to when you wanted to, no limitations. Absolute freedom.
They're steering more and more towards the average "press 1, 2, 3 and get a combo" MMO, sadly.

This is ok because Oldschool, thankfully
The horse is a little dead for beating, no?

i dont see how its worse than a "click on thing and wait until its dead" mmo
I swear, everything is members only in that game anymore

of course it is, they want to get paid.

Theres plenty of free content though... But of course the most is members only, how else would they make money?

but its exactly the same as it used to be
they even have the old combat system for people who like it more than the new one
runescapes combat was never anything special or unique. you literally just click on something and watch it die while eating food or whatever. woo, exciting. its not like the new combat is any more special, but 'no limitations absolute freedom' still exists to the same extent, its not like they removed being able to equip x gear with y gear or whatever.
I've missed too much events and things to bother giving a shit about this game anymore. I just can't keep up with it.
my biggest problem with the game is how long it takes to level compared to pretty much every other mmo out there. I know its runescapes whole deal, but I don't want to have to play for years, basically (unless I powerlevel like crazy) in order to enjoy the game at its finest. I don't have that sort of money, time, or patience. compared to most other mmos these days that spend most of their quality on the endgame and leveling only takes a week or so.

My main beef with the modern game is how overly bloated it's become. Reminds me of one of those ZDoom mods that contain literally everything for the sake of having everything.

???
I don't understand what you're getting at, the old runescape was way worse since it was click on monster and wait till it dies. They at least tried to give combat some depth. And the whole "omg freedom limitless potential" is still there, they even added new ways to play the game like ironman mode.
Runescape was always a bad game though, a bad game with very interesting lore which is the main reason I play it (Don't really care about getting x skill and muh xp gains, I just want to do the quests and follow the story)
Runescape was a glorified chatroom that somehow found itself with the greatest quests in mmo history.

Luckily they bought back Runescape from 2007 meaning that I can avoid it being painfully beaten to death. The fact its right up current Runescape's arse in terms of player count is hilarious. I think it only adds to the feeling that Jagex doesn't really care about the veterans anymore.
All of you saying old RS combat was just clicking and waiting can't have reached level 60+, combat actually got more difficult then as monsters got more powerful and you had to rely more on potions :v:
Also PVP was always pretty interesting.
but it is just clicking and waiting. literally. you just chug down a potion once and a while, eat a shark. I got to max combat, I know what I'm talking about. pvp was a bit interesting for pures, but outside of that, runescape was as bland as it gets, lol. the only real 'difficulty' was like, killing jad for the first time, because of all the prayer switching. outside of that, pretty much every monster is just 'pray this, eat when low, pot up beforehand' it still is, outside of harder bosses.

Yeah, but it's not just "click and wait", like you were implying. There's lots of clicking on the higher levels, and just "waiting" or even leaving the tab can be your death, especially if you're main mage or archery because you need to check your runes/arrows. :v:

except that if you're a high level mage/archer, you have a shitton of arrows so you don't need to check them at all. regardless of anything however, runescapes combat was extremely bland, it was practically adventurequest. everything is tickbased, so it might as well be a turn-based game with free movement, and that hasn't changed at all.
