• Medium-High level gaming computer, need help.

Hey guys, you may have seen me post a few times in this section the past couple of days. I recently bought RO2 and found out my computer is terribly out of date, and I want a new desktop. I have no parts on my current build that would be useful in the next one, and my case is prebuilt, so I'll start from scratch. Where would be a good place to start for Med-High gaming capability? I want to be able to run RO2 at recommended settings, but other than that its not important. I'll go up to $800 bucks but it would be cool if it was a bit less.
I can probably skimp on a monitor as well, as I currently have a pretty nice LED monitor, however it is not HD.
What resolution is it?
Not sure. It was near top of the line about 4-5 years ago, works fine in my opinion. If I can get a new monitor that's HD and isn't too much extra, I'd be willing to try it.

What model is it and what resolution are you using in windows?
720×480p I did some research, I think I will get a new monitor.
I honestly didn't know they made monitors at that low resolution.
I honestly didn't know they made monitors at that low resolution.
He might be using a TV. That explains the 480p
Possibly, not sure how you'd confuse a TV with a monitor either though.
How does someone use a computer at that resolution. That's like a phone resolution.
Let's get off the topic, can anyone suggest any good parts for my computer? I'm starting from scratch , including a monitor .
Recommended: OS: Windows XP/Vista/7 Processor: Quad Core 2.6 GHz or better RAM: 3 GB Graphics card: 512 MB SM 3.0 DX9 Compliant NVIDIA® GeForce GTX 260 or better ATI® Radeon® HD 5750 or better Sound: Sound Blaster Audigy or better DirectX: DirectX 9.0c Hard Drive: 8 GB free hard drive space
This would be a minimum.
$808 with shipping. Best you'll get on that budget, which is by no means bad at all. Also comes with an LED 1080 23" monitor, you can also drop to a 6850 and get a Hyper 212+, which I would personally due just for the noise but it's preference really.
This looks awesome. If I wanted to switch around a few parts, is there any rules of thumb to follow? Brand compatibility, brands to avoid, etc? Thanks for the help, btw. Much appreciated.
Not really anything you can/should change honestly except the monitor if you wanted too.
rules of thumb
The origin of this is hilarious, the term originally referred to a law that limited the maximum thickness of a stick with which it was permissible for a man to beat his wife

Also, a quick question on building the PC. Is it relatively straightforward, or is there any special process I have to follow? Any special tools?

If it doesn't fit, it doesn't belong there. Just make sure that you refer to your user manual while building, or watching tutorials. [editline]20th September 2011[/editline] And for the love of god don't build the PC on carpet.
Thanks again. By the way I'm making money, I'll have enough money saved up for this in maybe 4 months or so.
Thanks again. By the way I'm making money, I'll have enough money saved up for this in maybe 4 months or so.
Why make this so early? That was stupid
Thanks again. Start putting organizing a build maybe a week or so before you think you're ready to buy. Prices and inventory change so much. All the time spending figuring out a build now, half the parts may not even be available anymore when you're ready.
Oh shit. Hardware changes that fast? Dammit Moore, you were right all along. Thanks for your help anyways guys.
It's not that it's obsolete, but prices do usually fall even week to week. I would say have the money before searching for deals on hardware.

Generally speaking, the easier it is to find contradicting evidence the less valid the premise. Of course, if I'd gone and done a thorough set of references you'd still probably be reacting in a similar manner.
Assuming I buy this exact rig in 4 months, would it still be relevant? Would it still be a good computer?
