I'm looking to update my current rig
Phenom 955
GTX 460
4GB DDR3 RAM
700W OCZ PSU
I was thinking that I'd get another 460, but my current motherboard don't support SLi so I was going to get one of the new AM3+ boards, so can you recommend me one? Also would my 955 work in this board while I wait for the new bulldozer CPUs to come out? I'm looking to spend ~£80 on the motherboard and I'm from the UK
Sure you want to upgrade? If your performance is fine currently you should just wait until you feel the need to upgrade; as prices will probably be lower. As for CPU/Motherboard, AM3 CPUs work in AM3+ sockets.

Anything here would work, just pick what suits you best;

Yes I'm 100% sure I want to upgrade. So I'll still be able to overclock my AM3 CPU as well?
It's the same as if you were using an AM3 socket, it's backwards compatible (AM3 CPU working in AM3+ socket but not the other way around)
Okay, thanks for the advice I think I'll just go with this one

I can't see any advantages of going with the more expensive ones
Well, the one you chose is x16/x4 which will decrease performance for dual cards (opposed to a board with x8/x8)

Not sure how much it is, it's somewhere in the ~10% range.
Yeah I saw that but the 460 isn't a very powerful card and I don't think the cut in bandwidth would slow it down, I could be wrong though

There's a slight decrease on performance when you're using GTX 580s, GTX 460 won't make a big deal outta it.

It varies from game to game, though.
although I'm not entirely sure about the PSU, it's not exactly the greatest quality and it only outputs around 550W on the 12V rail
Does your current board have crossfire support? If so just use SLIPatch

Full system load is ~450W with 460 Sli so I should be fine. Also my current motherboard only has one PCI-E slot and besides I want to upgrade to AM3+
Bump- I'm also looking for a couple of 120mm fans, can anyone help?
Just sell the 460 and buy 6950 and am3+ board..

Depends on what you're looking for. Air flow or quiet fans?
and how much per fan
So long as they're not offensively loud I don't care, also I don't really want to spend more than £25 for the pair
probably gentle typhoon 1850RPM then
[editline]1st August 2011[/editline]
or bitfenix spectres if you want to go cheaper

sharkoon silent eagles are supposed to be good too
The typhoons seem to be the best performing and you can get them fr £10 each so I think I'll go for them. Thanks for your help
