• Looking for game recommandations on a low-budget card.

I have recently helped my friend build a very low budget PC (I'm talking like 300$) and with only a Radeon 6450 1gb DDR3 video card,a Pentium 4,and 2gbs of RAM I am thinking that the general selection of easy-to-run games would be very limited. So far I have always brought up games released by Valve, Killing Floor,Minecraft AVA, some more F2P titles, etc but what are some more 'modern' games released in the past several years that would be an interest to a fairly casual gamer? Apologize if this is a 'choose for me thread', but after browsing through I am given obvious shit results such as 'It isn't meant for gaming.'. -Also, can overclocking a card such as this (No fan, large heat sink, well aerated case) be safe, nonetheless effective considering it isn't prone to generate tons of heat?
Nothing is really going to run well on a Pentium 4, why on earth did you get him that?
Don't overclock. The dirt games might run ok on the lowest settings.
I did the Pentium 4 gaming thing for a long time, the CPU holds you back on more modern games. No matter which videocard you use or how much system memory you have, some games REQUIRE at least a dual core. You'll know which games those are because his framerate will be under 10fps no matter what settings he uses. I'd suggest sticking with turn based strategy oriented games. Civ 4 would be a good choice, there are lots of mods for that to add value. HL2 and Portal run fine, but L4D 2/Portal 2/TF2 all really need a dual core. Torchlight 2 should run okay. Basically avoid modern first person shooters. edit: Overclocking is a waste of time with this setup. He needs another core, not a faster single core.
Many people still play and enjoy Quake Live.
Many people still play and enjoy Quake Live.
My friend isn't exactly a graphics fanatic, he will probably enjoy Quake and it's solid gameplay, completely forgot about that. Thanks.
Nothing is really going to run well on a Pentium 4, why on earth did you get him that?
The price range was very limited, so we got one of them dirt cheap. Plus, he still need to make room for a 60$ monitor, I wasn't exactly in choice of the processor, but I agree....perhaps he could upgrade to a cheap dual core AMD processor or even an i3 if his PSU can draw out enough.
I have recently helped my friend build a very low budget PC (I'm talking like 300$) and with only a Radeon 6450 1gb DDR3 video card,a Pentium 4,and 2gbs of RAM
Ahahahaha oh man, you got ripped off. That shit isn't worth 100 new, let alone that some of that was probably used parts.
Sorry, but you shouldn't have even bothered if your budget was so low that only a 6450 and a Pentium 4 were your only options. Unreal Engine 2 games if you're lucky. Maybe early Unreal Engine 3 stuff on lowest settings. Far Cry 1 on Low/Med at like 800x600/1024x768.
If you spent some extra you could have gotten him a $430 Core i3 Dell 660 Inspiron Minitower. http://outlet.us.dell.com/ARBOnlineSales/Online/InventorySearch.aspx?brandId=2202&c=us&cs=22&l=en&s=dfh You could have also inserted a $100 HD 7750 into it if he wanted to play more demanding modern games with it. Otherwise the integrated CPU graphics would have done fine for old or very low demanding games. You should return that PC if you can.
crysis 1 or mount and blade
i remember complaining about how slow my pentium 4 was in 2007
i remember complaining about how slow my pentium 4 was in 2007
I remember not buying a Pentium 4 back in 2005 because of the performance, hello Athlon X2.
crysis 1 or mount and blade
HAHA. Crysis on a P4. Good one.
He might also enjoy "classic" America's Army.
