• Looking for GPU upgrade to breathe in a little life for an aging PC

As the title reads, I just want to upgrade my GPU. My specs are as follows, Intel Q9300 (2.5ghz) 8GB RAM ATI 4870 (512mb) 1920x1200 monitor I'd imagine there wouldn't be much point in buying too much of an expensive videocard as the the CPU would only bottleneck it, so please recommend me a card that will give me the most "bang for my buck" given my specs. I'm hoping to be able to run Planetside2 at 60 frames on the lowest settings. If you think that's not probable even with a new card, please let me know as well. I'm in the US.
You would hardly notice a bottleneck. The Q9xxx cpus are more than capable of running modern gpus with little noticeable frame rate drop. The pci 2.0 is what is going to be a bigger bottleneck than the cpu in this case, also the memory. What's your budget going to be? That will determine what you can get.
we don't know your budget but I'd say go with a 6850, it should run fine with a q9300 and it's the best bang for your buck.
I didn't include budget because I figured I'd have some sort of bottleneck somewhere, I couldn't possibly spend more than 200 dollars without essentially throwing money away because of a limitation somewhere? thanks for the current advice. My max budget will be 250
we don't know your budget but I'd say go with a 6850, it should run fine with a q9300 and it's the best bang for your buck.
Thanks, what would the Nvidia equivalent be? I experienced some irritating lack of driver support with certain games with my current ati card, but if the ATI again is the better performer value wise I'll go with it.
