So, I'm not exactly looking for discussion here, I'm just curious. I've had troubles concentrating all my life, but today in my health seminar class, we were talking all about how drugs, pills specifically, can have very good effects if you actually need them. The base of the topic was ADD/HD. We discussed it for an hour thirty minutes, and the conversation was pretty much the same all around. Anyone who was on the pill, found it much easier to concentrate and focus. + They said it was easier for them to draw, and I do love sketching.
I'm just curious as to what pills are good out there, if I do get diagnosed with it. Which I should suggest to my doctor to prescribe to me. And also, If you are taking any pills, what the pros + cons are. Thanks folks.
((Also, there was a comic I saw on the LMAO thread, It said the name of a pill specifically. If you could post that, bonus points.))
Pros- you're more focused and shit
cons - your stomach feels like it's rotting from the inside.
At least that is my experience with it, and I don't have ADD but my girlfriend does. I was bored and took her pill. So that may not work the same with you, but the stomach rotting thing is universal based on when I was describing the effects to others.
Also, you'll get a major migraine.
Here is a guide I wrote

Thats exactly what I was lookin for. Thanks :)
be careful of what you say cause you may end up with larger problems than you have today. "I can't concentrate" is not a valid reason and can end up with a lot of "guessing" from the doctor and wrong medication
if you lack social skills or whatever this is very important because then the doctor can misinterpret you
you can't tell the doctor what pill you want, that's up to him to choose unless he gives you a number of options. you may get a certain pill or you may not get it at all
it's important to ask people around you if they think you become problematic (like side effects) since it's hard to notice this yourself. And of course side effects depends on the amount you're going to take
it seems like conserta has a high success rate from what I've gathered from the people in the psychiatry
I can't concentrate.
Must be ADHD. Better get some Ritalin.
Conserta is a great thing, it's important you don't become fixated and Dependant on it though. I think of it not as something personality changing, but something that helps you focus. It's a tool really.
i was on concerta since i was about 3 or 4 up until i was about 12 or 13.
in my later years of taking it i got extreme depression and hated almost everyone who tried to talk to me in school, with a few exceptions. getting off of it was one of the most awesome things ever, like a giant cloud was lifted. my outlook on life completely changed.
the only bad thing coming off of it was the increase in appetite
All these different like opinions. It makes it hard to decide.
Hey OP, when you read a book or try to do homework or you're talking to your friends are you glancing off in a bunch of different directions?
I have problems keeping my focus very often, maybe looking for some kind of drug would be good.

Very often.

Perhaps you should go to a concentration camp.
It worked for jews, look at how succesful they all are!
If you truly think you need to take brain-altering drugs to fix a relativity small issue such as this, by all means go ahead. You'll most certainly pay for it in the long run though.
Also it seems like you've already made up your mind, so I don't know why you're asking.
But I haven't. That's why I'm asking for peoples opinions whom have taken it.
Never got headaches from it.
Decreased Apetite: I looked like I was fucking starved because of how little I ate.
Feelings of Nausea.
Difficulty sleeping.
My Mom also said I was also just staring into space. While under effects of the pill. And then she accidentally took one of mine, and afterward took me off immediately.
Oh, for which pills, Ritalin and then later Adderall.
You know what, the schools seem to encourage this crap. "He can't focus. He's too wild." Um, I was a KID! And yet they make their lives easier by fucking with their brain by forcing them to take pills. I will NEVER put my children on this crap. And guess what, after being taken off, I calmed down on my own.
I was misdiagnosed with one of the two in 2003, and I now suffer from multiple heart conditions because the shit they prescribed me was quickly rushed through the FDA and wasn't tested as well as it should have been.
These pills got me kicked out of 2 schools.
OP, it depends on the person taking them. Some pills will have different side effects for different people.
Not all ADHD medications will effect your diet. If they do, you should have your doctor switch your medication to a new one. I used to take Concerta from the ages of seven to 9. I was switched to Adderall because I was ~70lbs and was taking the same dosage of Concerta as my (at the time) 16 year old cousin and my doctor was considering raising the dose even higher.

If you are diagnosed, your doctor will probably have you try out a few different medications a dosages.
A good rule of thumb is to pay attention to any differences in diet, sleeping, focus, mood, ect.
Be honest to your doctor and don't be afraid to let him/her know if you don't feel any different because you may need a higher dose.
Also, keep in mind that if the unwanted side effects outweigh the desired effects you need to tell your doctor.
I have ADHD and I just started taking adderall a few months ago, works basically like in McNab's comic.
Or he could come to terms with his personality and cope with it rather than fucking with his higher brain functions. Honestly. Judging by the symptoms and wishes listed in the OP, he's just an average human with nothing wrong with him.
Nothing wrong is a disease these days
Are you guys familiar with Gillian Lynne? The woman that produced Cats and many other theatrical productions? When she was a kid her teachers thought there was something wrong with her because she kept moving around and wasn't concentrating.
People back then had no clue what was wrong with her because ADHD hadn't been invented yet.
When she was taken to her doctor, her doctor put on some music and left the room and saw that she got up and started dancing. Her doctor turned to her mother and said "Mrs. Lynne, there's nothing wrong with your daughter. She's a dancer. Take her to a dance school."
That's exactly what her mother did.
Any other doctor would have put her on medication and told her to calm down.
"No ADD/ADHD doesn't exist, people just don't punch their children and scream at the top of their lungs at them."
Riddalin.......
Fuck concerta, take adderall.

Speaking of Adderall, a friend of mine takes it and it messed up him pretty badly.
Large anti-social disposition. He may not talk to anybody for no reason at all but at least he gets good grades! And that's what matters most, right guys?
So tell him he should try a different drug.
Adderall isn't for everyone, but it's perfect for me.
