Magnet links have never worked for it, they just turn up blank when I open them.
Fuckin' magnets? How do they work?
Magnet links used to work, now nothing happens when I click on them. Infuriating, really.

You're doing something wrong
You're doing something wrong
I click download, µtorrent opens them, and it doesn't contain any files. It's very odd.
but pirates are meant to be on the sea, not under the ground

press ok and it will appear after a while

They should buy an actual pirate ship and keep all the servers on that.
Why only against The Pirate Bay? Are they aware that there's dozens of others torrent sites and that shutting down one is useless?

Pirate internet

Who would you rather kick in the balls?
The writers of that one horrible sit-com?
Or the director of that one horrible sit-com?
Sure kicking the writers would hurt them, but nobody cares about their well-being.
it's meant to do that
that means I can't choose which files in the torrent I want to download
Pirate Bay only needs to upload all their magnet links and database in that mini site form frequently and it can never be taken down
wait a second
The Pirate Bay does not host illegal files but allows users to search and access copyrighted content including movies, games and TV shows.
finally a news story gets it right
Forcing ISPs to block a site makes you a shitty country. Even sites that host child porn.

tim berners-lee would be tossing in his grave
Let it run for 10 seconds and you can then cancel files all you want.
oh, thanks.
Magnet links dont show the files when you add them because they dont contain the metadata that a torrent file does to list the files to the client. If you wait a short while it will update with the file list.
Kind of annoying if you only want one file though.
Let it run for 10 seconds and you can then cancel files all you want.
Will it actually appear in the open torrent dialog or only in file list? Cause file list doesn't support folders and what do I do if each folder has over 100 files I don't want?

With this move I'm sure major torrent programs will address this somehow.

1. Because it's famous, obviously.
2. Because as the article mentions, it's about politics. TPB is a form of activism against various forms of limitation of freedom of speech and freedom of information, it has spawned several political parties and has an iconic status within these groups. TPB serves as a link with the outside world, because thousands of people come into contact with it daily. The front page is often used to channel political messages to its users. Taking TPB down is crudely speaking akin to assassinating a high-profile rebel leader.

Same reason they think that Google controls the internet.
Because the people against them know shit about the internet.

More to the point, this whole blocking the pirate bay thing isn't going to work out well. You can't shut down what is in effect a decentralized service now, and doing so will work to opposite ends when The Pirate Bay makes the news every time they evade a block (mirrors, any number of free hosts, etc).
I kind of wonder how many people now know about The Pirate Bay based on the news coverage alone.
It could go deep web.
