Finally, February 26 will introduce a revamped death screen. Veering closer to traditional FPS titles, downed players will be able to see what killed them on a mini-map, which should help squads flush out pesky snipers or tanks that are hiding in the distance.
"Where the fuck was that guy!?" Well that problems solved.
"Where the fuck was that guy!?" Well that problems solved.
Kinda funny because I thought that the new medium range silent crossbows would add to the "where the fuck did that come from" problem. Not anymore I suppose.
Ugh the new kill screen thing sounds terrible. People can already see sniper vapors, see where you shoot on the minimap, and just fucking hell this is gonna make it a greater pain in the ass to be an inf.
Can't wait. Amerish sucks to fight on without the lattice.

I honestly just don't like it at all, all it means is constant movements as an infiltrator, and if you had to connect a suppressor, a greater pain in the ass to kill people. If they really want to nerf infiltrators, increase the cycle or settling rate of their sniper rifles so that each shot is more of a surgical strike then an actually easy shoot and replace shot on another person. Another thing Planetside 2 is something which allows the knock out of an enemy team's long range communications for a temporary period of time. Something that disrupts Platoon/Squad/Command radio channels in a certain area, maybe a Liberator dropping chaf or something like that. As well as they need to disable VOIP Communications when the player is dead.
As well as they need to disable VOIP Communications when the player is dead.
You'll just give people who use none-game communications an advantage.
As somebody who has only been seriously playing the game for two weeks, and who has come to favour inf, I'm okay with this. I have never used a suppressor when using SMGs, so people already know that I'm around and I'm close by. They'd know that much even if I was using a suppressor. Knowing that the people you're murdering know that you're somewhere around just adds to the class. You're supposed to be on the move, not sitting on a rock cloaked like an annoying baby. All I ever see from my teammates that see snipers that are just sitting on rocks cloaked is usually some remark about them being completely useless unless they manage to catch a MAX in the open. Headshotting a guy contributes very little to base captures and defending, as their spawn is always close by. You're much more useful when you're on the move and helping diversify the battlefield; not just a single doorway. I honestly think this will only punish infiltrators that sit on their ass in corners with sniper rifles. A good infiltrator will not be sticking around once he has taken out a guy.
In most games, I learned to move around if I snipe. Sitting in a single spot for a too long is bad. In PS2, I'd keep moving as an Infiltrator. Maybe stop for 10 seconds, than move on. Just enough time to hide before dead players respawn and hunt me.
You'll just give people who use none-game communications an advantage.
Yeah pubbies get shit on enough without having the few that use voice coms getting nerfed as well. That's just harsh.

How the hell do they still think the players want this? EDIT: Oh they changed it so that it doesn't highlight the killer's location on the minimap, it only has an arrow pointing in the killer's direction. That's not as bad.

This new death screen mechanic that shows you where you were killed from really gets my goat, because nobody was asking for this. The roadmap thread on their forums where they announced the mechanic is just about the only issue I have seen that community almost unanimously agreed on: this is a stupid concept that we didn't want in the slightest. SOE tried revising the idea three flippin' times to make it more appealing over the past few months, and the community was still firmly opposed to it. And then SOE went ahead and added it anyway. What's the point of asking for community input on the game is if you're just going to ignore it anyway? [editline]17th February 2014[/editline] The Amerish changes look top notch, though. I can't wait to check it out!

What's the point of asking for community input on the game is if you're just going to ignore it anyway?
well it's fairly simple really, the life vein of any F2P game is new user inflow and retention rates, if you have enough new users coming in and staying they're likely to put money into the game while also covering population losses due to burnouts and such keeping the game stable for paying users to continue to enjoy and to attract even more new users, and chances are before looking at anything else in the game if new users are coming in and taking to the game you're probably doing well and thus this is one fairly reliable point to judge the state of your game on. the obvious problem here is casual boneheads come in, run around and die repeatedly, complain that they can't see who's shooting them, and then uninstall game without putting any money in, in addition to other things casuals usually mindlessly complain about. they've probably got a big graph somewhere fed by in game metrics that shows how new users are taking to the game and evidently they believe so much that this would be a good thing to add based on this data they are willing to over rule their core users, which I shouldn't have to tell you is HIGHLY dangerous as the core users do most of the heavy lifting in the community, shit they are most of a game's community, however they can not sustain a game alone which is why we need boat loads of new people coming in every now and again to keep paint on the walls. Sometimes it's necessary to do things the core users won't like, however as the head of Age of Empires Online said in a Dice keynote: "annoy your core at your own risk."
I for one can't wait to kill the Amish.
