• How to open a .000 File Extension type?!

Greetings Facepunch users, I've recently been trying to port some models from Midway's Area 51 Game (2005) however, although the game is free for download online now, the files seem to be in an encrypted '.000' file format. I have tried EVERYTHING searching on google, from Winrar, to 7-zip, HS-Split, GOBREAD, etc. Nothing works, I get 'Archive is Damaged/Corrupted or in an unknown format' trying to open it -- Obviously it's not really damaged/corrupted as the game works perfectly fine if I run it, but this file extension has me completely stumped. Any Idea's or suggestions??
The extension is probably proprietary.
The file format is probably proprietary.
Ftfy. I've seen .000 files used in split archives, but the extension itself means nothing. It's the file format that matters.

Might be worth giving TrID a shot?

EDIT: Uhh, ran the program on the file - I get a brief flash of the 'CMD' window then it closes immediately. Second EDIT: Wow - found a program that can detect and rip models from games into 3d modelling programs easily: http://www.deep-shadows.com/hax/3DRipperDX.htm http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=grW6yPQSLNY I'm going to give this a go and see if I can use this sort of tactic instead of accessing the game files directly.
