Can I use sd cards with usb card readers for installing/running Windows?

I recently picked up this USB 3.0 SD card reader, and I'm wondering if I can use SD cards with this reader to act as bootable media.
My plan is to use several normal SD cards to have install media on, for repairing installations/regaining access to locked out computers (the good 'ol sticky keys trick), and a micro SD card to have a personal bootable Windows 10 installation on.
Am I able to accomplish these goals with this reader? My main target for these is various Dell business laptops running various versions of Windows (from XP to 10) that all have boot from USB options.
If your motherboard supports booting from that device, then yes.
Keep in mind that the cards kind of stick out when using that reader and that SD cards are pretty slow even when using UHS-III.
I think it's a better investment to have a fast USB stick like a Sandisk Extreme to have Windows To Go, and then mediocre ones running multiboot for the rest. An extra ounce won't kill ya.
