I am a computer building newb with $1000 AUS, looking for help.

As the title so aptly explains, I have recently come into $1000 AUS, and I've been wanting a new set up for a while. I am a fairly newb when it comes to computer terms etc., but I know the general gist of most things. But as I know a lot of people here have more experience in matters such as these I've decided to try my luck asking you all.
What I'm looking for is just a CPU setup. I don't need a monitor, keyboard, or mouse. Speakers are optional (do you guys even recommened speakers?). If they fit within the $1000 price range I have, then feel free to include them.
I'm not sure if this is possible, but there are two things I'd like to be assured if you offer me any advice. All graphics cards 1GB or greater, and at least 4GBs of ram. I don't know if I'm being unrealistic asking for all this or not, as I said I'm fairly newb at this, but if I am just let me know.
I'd appreciate any help I can get on the matter.
Also: I'm all good for the putting it together matter, I do have a mate who can build computers as he's done his and some other mates before, so I don't need advice on that front. Just hardware.
Thanks in advance for those who can help me.
P.S. again: If you couldn't tell from my currency explanation, I am Australian, so if there are certain things I won't be able to get ahold of inside Australia, please don't bother posting them, I won't be ordering in from overseas. Thanks.
P.S.S. I am hopeless: Don't need to worry about an OS either, I have a copy.
If you can buy from MSY you can get everything a boatload cheaper.
MSY haven't been slashing their prices like they used to. Half the time Centrecom is cheaper now and they also do deliveries.
Adzicents, thanks man that looks like a tight setup, though I may not have half a clue and just be talking shit. I'll try to find all that stuff in the state I live in, which realistically should be entirely possible. What's the cheapest, but still good quality 1.79GB graphics card, could anyone tell me? I do have an extra 120 bucks lying around too that I really don't need to spend on crap. If I had a 1.79GB graphics card would I need more ram? I have close to zero effing clue. Thanks guys, you've been mighty helpful.
The GTX 295 is the only card with 1.79GB of VRAM, the amount of VRAM in a card doesn't determine how well it performs. There are cards with 512MB of VRAM that perform better than some with 1GB.
The only worthwhile upgrade from a 5770 is either a 4890 or 5850.

I meant just regular ol' ram. <- Or unless that was a retarded thing to say. In which case I take it back. 1GB graphics card is probably good enough for most/all games but yeah? I'm just sick of this 256kb piece of shit I have. Need UBER LEET GRAPHICS YA' HERR? Thanks again for the help.
Centrecom, MSY, CPL and PCCasegear are all good, trust these people

ok but according to benchmarks the GTX 295 is quite literally the fastest thing you can get right now, there's absolutely no denying that, and because of this, it doesn't help your theory that VRAM isn't so important. yes it all comes down to the GPU, but it's just that, with a good enough GPU, the VRAM makes a big difference.
not saying he should get one, not even sure you can get one for less than $1000 AUS, just saying.

You seem to have forgotten about the 5970.
I didn't even say it wasn't important, it's just not the thing that determines a good graphics card.
yes i did forget. forgot it just released. seems to be sold out just about everywhere right now, so in that case the GTX 295 is still the fastest thing you can get :geno:

No, not really.
nnno, actually it is. unless you get more than one card.
maybe you didn't understand something in "seems to be sold out just about everywhere right now"
That doesn't suddenly make it worse than the 295. There's some places that still have them in stock anyway.
fuck man how are you not wrapping your mind around the statement
holy shit

No not really, 5870 is just as powerful if not more powerful.

Somebody seams like a fanboy and vram is important to a point cause 2 gigs is unneeded for a single gpu card but for a double 2 gigs is definitely a must since the gtx 295 can't run GTA IV at 2560by 1600.

Driver issues durp.

Why are you even using GTA IV? It's 99% CPU based.
The thread was last replied to under 24 hours ago so I don't feel -too- bad for bumping it. I just wanted to ask a question but not make another thread. Which would be better out of these two, because I have the extra 30 bucks or whatever it is to spend.

Thanks again if someone can answer my question.
4890.
Hold up, don't I need a hard drive? There's not one coming with something else is there? I'll feel foolish if I sound like a tard, but I won't care much because I am confused. As I said, I am a computer building noob.
You do indeed need a HD: http://www.centrecom.com.au/catalog/product_info.php?cPath=107_22&products_id=35375
Thank god, I thought I may have been having a retarded brain lapse. Thanks bud, appreciated again.
