In November, I bought a new Netgear router (N600 Wireless Dual Band Router WNDR3400v2) to replace my 5-year-old linksys router, and it works great except for two connection issues. When I play PC games, I get the worse lag spikes and on Xbox360, I randomly disconnect. The connection overall is really good when it is working, but these random disconnects and lag spikes are ruining it.
When I'm playing games on my laptop (Mostly Vindictus), I get lag-spikes that freeze me for about 10-20 seconds, and on the Xbox360 it will just instantly kick me off. No lag or anything, just kicks me off and re-connects when I go to the dashboard. Both my Laptop and Xbox360 ARE wireless, but the router isn't far at all. If you walk out my bedroom door, it's on the other side of the wall in front of you. My laptop has full bars and my Xbox360 has 3 bars, so the single isn't weak or anything.
Is there something I need to change in the router settings or something? Id greatly appreciate any help.
Have you tried resetting the router
Yes, many times. Has not made a difference.
I'm guessing the router is faulty
I wouldn't think so, the lag and disconnects don't happen often enough for me to think its faulty. Its just often enough to be annoying. My little brother is even closer to the router then I am, and he tells me his xbox360 never disconnects. The router could be faulty, and I might be able to exchange the router, but its Christmas so screw it. I'll worry about it later.
Thanks for the help anyway and merry Christmas!
