I just bought Bastion today, on steam, and it went through first time setup and the DirectX setup failed with an "internal System Error", telling me to check DXError.log in my Windows folder, which I cant find. Then, I got the generic "Bastion has stopped working check for a solution close blahblah" and that's what happens every time I launch, the game, except now it always says first time setup for a second, a window flashes (DXSetup), then Bastion stops working. I have tried googling it, I tried everything, but nothing works at all. The only thing I have yet to try is Uninstalling DirectX, which I'm not entirely sure how to do, and according to some places that's not a great idea.
I tried downloading another dxwebsetup from microsoft's site but it did the same thing. There's a whole bunch of other shit I tried in the last 2 hours but I couldn't name it all off. Here are the problem details for Bastion's crash (sidenote: I have had past problems with Kernelbase.dll, which I solved by taking ownership of the Microsoft.net folder in my Windows fodler, but that did not work this time around):

Any help is much appreciated.
Small update: I uninstalled XNA Framwork and .NET, but I cant reinstall .NET. I can install the 4.0 version, but Bastion only uses 3.5, and when I click on the installer, or run as administrator, or anything, it just does nothing. XNA installed fine though. I'm wondering if DirectX has anything to do with it at all, or if the whole thing with being unable to run that installation had any relevance to Bastion not working.
What version of DirectX are you using?

11. The more I think about it, the less it seems like a problem with directX. It was just the only thing I could blame at first. But now that the .Net setup wont do anything, I'm starting to think it's that. Is there any way to manually install 3.5? Like, without a setup exe or anything?
For those who are able to fully install Bastion on Win7 64Bit but the program crashes afrer launch:
I an erro error and crash after using the Bastion installer .msi to install directly on my PC. Then I tried installing Bastion via Steam and had the same error. But, on the 2nd launch of Bastion, Steam installed the Microsoft XNA Framework Redistributable 3.1 and the program is running fine now.
If you are running Windows 7 64Bit (maybe even if you are running 32bit Win7 too) download the Microsoft XNA Framework Redistributable 3.1: and install it: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=15163
NOTES:
The Microsoft XNA Framework Redistributable 3.1 installer is actually extracted to the Bastion Program Files folder after installation and you can install it from here. The file name to execute is xnafx31_redist.msi:
• Regular install: C:\Program Files (x86)\bastion
• Steam install: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\bastion
You might also have to have .NET 3.5 installed as well, so try installing this if installing the Microsoft XNA Framework Redistributable 3.1 does not work or you have it installed already. The .NET 3.5 installer is also extracted to the Bastion folders listed above after installing Bastion. You can also download .NET 3.5 as well: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=21

Thanks, but as I said XNA has no issues that I can see and I can't run any .Net 3.5 installers at all. I tried again anyway, but it doesn't work.

Hey ho
first of all- sorry for the bad english coming up ^^
I have just registerd for this message, I had the same problems just 5 minutes ago but got it to work ^^
first of all, go to control panel to programs , there is a link where you can install und uninstall all of your programs... if you have .net Framework 4 - uninstall it.
furthermore, there (in the program control panel) is a link to "activate and deactivate windows functions" . click it and a list will appear, check framework 3.5 and activate it (the checkbox needs to be completely filled blue ^^). In win 7 - framework 3.5 is automatically installed and can't be run vie the dotnetfxsetup.exe
At last, install the XNA redistub version mentioned in this thread 2 posts earlier.. for me this was the last piece to start the game :)
.net 3.5 is already installed with the OS and is already activated (unless you are stupid and uninstall it but its still there). Add/Remove programs, find .net 3.5 and click the box so its filled and press ok and it will fix itself.
Also the devs said to try XNA 4.0:

Also verify the game cache.

I did all of these things in order, no dice. I already had XNA installed, so I repaired it and tried it in combinations with 3.5, 4.0, and both. I have .NET 4.0 installed again because XNA 4.0 needs it, but I tried without it and it still didn't work.

Tried all this too. Nothing. The box was already filled in, so I unchecked it, restarted, and rechecked it, then restarted again. Didn't work.
Thanks for your replies though.
Welp, after my friend suggested I just reinstall Windows (because I've had quite a few problems overall) I thought I may as well, since I was due a refresher anyway, and now Bastion works. Pretty great game so far, but I'm going to bed. Thanks for trying to help, I appreciate it.
