Hi, I planned on getting a Macbook Pro, but that might not work out so I need to find a good price/power for a different laptop.
I plan on running CS5 Design Suite Premium (Photoshop, Flash, Dreamweaver, etc). I plan on carrying it around with me at school everyday. If it could run Hackinstosh, that would be great! I plan on doing a lot of programming on it so the higher resolution, the better. Any possible gaming would be a bonus.
The Macbook Pro I was looking at was a 15" i7, 4GB RAM. Anything better and cheaper (< $2100) would be nice.

8gb of ram, ATI Mobility HD 5870, 17.3 inch screen, 1080p, i7-720QM, and a 500gb hard drive.

Buy that laptop. But remember its a power hog so bring your charger.
That's fine. I usually have power available. Newegg says that it weighs 8 pounds. Is that with or without the charger? Someone commented saying to keep it with you in case you need to break a window because it's a brick.
Without.

Design sucks

How does it suck?
It was in stock this morning. Welp, just do the autonotify thing, a PSU I wanted went out of stock, did auto notify and it was back within a couple days.
How's this? It has a 64GB HDD for the OS.

Oh fuck, that might screw up the 'portability' part.

How's this instead?
That's a good one too.
360M sucks but you'll get better battery life.

it has a 500GB main hard drive and the 64GB SSD for the OS, how does that mess up portability?
It's the 18.4" and 10lbs. I have carry this in my backpack everyday.
Well do you want performance or portability. Its going to be hard running CS5 on a small notebook.

10 pounds isn't that much. Although an 18.4" might be a hassle to fit in a backpack...

I pretty much need both. I'm looking at 17". 18.4" would be too much. Officially, my budget is about $1700.
I'd wait until the first one I suggested is back in stock.
I've found a good price on a Qosmio X505-Q890. What's your opinion on that? Should I maybe look at refurbs?
That looks like a good one.
When I was looking for a laptop for school, it was hell trying to find one that performs well with the things I need and be portable at the same time. At first I got that Asus. BIG MISTAKE( unless you'll use it as a desktop replacement ), Battery is way too short which is expected for so much power and it's way to heavy. I checked out the Qosmio at a store, one of the guys said that it had a lot of problems with the battery. Not sure if that was true but I went with his advice. At the end, I ended up with something I never knew I would. A Macbook Pro 15" i5, 4GB RAM, 330M. What I use it for? CS5 and taking notes in class mainly. It runs TF2, Call of Duty 2,4,5 really well. Downside is that it heats up like fuck! Max it went to was 89 degrees celsius. This is my first mac I've ever gotten and all in all I find it to be very reliable. It's really light too and have no problems carrying it around with the charger whatsoever. (It also looks sexy.)

I'm glad you found what you wanted, but really, the design of the MBP is really overrated. They are not sexy at all.

That's what I was looking at. Problem was that they were too expensive. As I've don't got a gaming desktop, I will be mainly using this.

you mean SSD, and it wont 'screw up the 'portability' part.' in the slightest.
