My dad just got an LG 50" Plasma and the thing broke after 3 days, plasma = fail, so i'm trying to avoid it if possible. I'm looking for a really nice 40-42 inch tv for watching movies, and playing games on. Budget will be about £900-1000.
Any recommendations?
Return the plasma for a new plasma, for free.

He doesn't want a new TV because his plasma broke, He just said that so you don't recommend any plasmas for him.
My sister had a 52" plasma for two years now, we even banged wasps on it and it's still working flawlessly.
the fact its plasma isn't why it broke in 3 days. LG Tv's are VERY hit and miss, LCD or Plasma. Knock on wood mine's still working, but have had ALOT of problems with it. Plasma is better for fast action (ie. Sports, Games etc), but do have to say my LG LCD is still pretty good.

If you take care of it and don't use it for extremely long periods, it can last a while.
Also, what about a 46" Sony Bravia?

This is what I've been looking at.
Been hearing good things about the new LED HDTV's
Our 52" LCD LG is working flawlessly, had it for over a year now. I would say go with: Samsung, Vizio, Sony, Sharp, LG.
Our 42" LCD LG is working flawlessly, had it over a year now, LG 42LF66 it is, I especially like the Serial interface, Automagically set up the input, brightness and aspect ratio dependant on the media played via serial, Brill.
