hi, merry christmas to all you lovely people. had a pretty good day, stuffed now. hope you have too!
went to see my dad and he kinda said i can have his Honda HRV (same car, same colour, just a few years older(s reg)) for free.
Thing is know fuck-all about cars. I passed in April and I've drove a 1998 1.6 Diesel Rover Metro since. I drive like a woman, never over-rev, 60mph instead of 70 etc.. I get about 100-115 miles for £10..(~59mpg)..
Just wondering, I know the HRV is a (technically) a 4x4 but, if i drive the same as i do in my metro, would i get a similar type of mileage? When i see a 4x4 I think gas-guzzler, thanks to mainstream media. but are they really that bad?
It's recently had a full service and has no problems whatsoever. I get quoted £2000 for 3rd party and £2500 for comprehensive.. but it's a free car, so my only expenditure would be fuel and insurance (it's already taxed until next year).
What do you guys think? go for it, or keep the metro? sorry if it sounds a bit dumb.
Merry christmas.
You should be able to disable the 4x4 gear if you don't need to use it, and the mpg will be similar to yours, probably slightly less since the car is heavier, but it is probably more efficient than your Metro, however that is diesel.
I can't immagine it being drastically different.

Get off the roads
In all seriousness you won't get the same 60mpg but it should be in the neighborhood of 40mpg if you drive conservatively
Let me rephrase that. I drive like someone who, being a student, is tight as fuck. my friends all have 2litre pieces of fuck which go 160mph... they spend like £10 per day.. man i fill up once/twice a week! personally, i don't see the point. the limit is 70, so why get anything which is more than 70? Acceleration is a different ball game altogether. anything is quicker than my metro.
Cosmic, the 4x4 only kicks in when the front two wheels haven't got enough traction, so it is kinda disabled..
petrol is cheaper but diesels go further.. it's hard man. real hard. my other car before the honda came into light, was a Skoda Fabia, diesel 1.4, basically a tank. which would get me more mileage but i'd have to fork out £3500 for it, where as the honda is free :(
You should sell that car and get a car with good quality. Like a Volvo 940 or S70. They last for ages. Great Quality and fuel cheep. Doesn't cost that much but I work as a car mechanic so ask me any question about something you wonder about.
I'm only interested in getting this honda because it's free, I wouldn't buy it with my own money. which is why I came here, I just don't want to get it and then all of a sudden spend have to spend a fuck load of money to run the thing.
any car is an upgrade from my metro. Personally, if i could afford it, I'd get a VW Bora or a Skoda Octavia. I dunno why they just make my dick hard.
If I was in your position I'd probably sell the HRV and buy a miata (They get roughly 30mpg but they manage to be extremely fun to drive and reasonably nippy as well as being relatively cheap on insurance) but this is coming from someone who drives a 5.7 liter
Lol, a Type 2 Volkswagon Van.
Those are too cool for school.
haha, i'd love to sell it.. but really don't think it would look too good, get as a car as a gift then sell it for something else :')
