I know this problem has been posted quite a few times but I am desperate.
Basically started my computer and I am greeted by a black screen with a blinking line/dash in the top left corner. Can't get into safe mode. No DVD's in drive or USB's connected. Pretty sure I need to reinstall Windows. Last ditch effort is to ask if anyone has any ideas?
I think it is a registry error since I have been having some strange things happening with my registry recently and I have had this before. But this time I have been doing registry backups so I have a few files on my computer saved as .reg or something, is there any way of loading these backups to see if it solves the problem?
Next issue, I have a very, VERY important folder on my desktop I need access to, if I put my hard drive into my friends computer should I be able to access this file?
I swear computers are really alive and know the EXACT week to go wrong to screw you over more than anything.
Tried recovering windows with your installation DVD? You can put your hard drive into a friends computer to get the files, but you can also just boot a linux live cd to get at them too.
I had a student copy I downloaded and burned myself so don't have the disc any more and can't get the download of my computer. Bit of a bugger but hoping to get the file when my housemate comes back.
Happened to me, a restart fixed it, or if that didn't, the startup repair fixed it on reboot. Does it get stuck after rebooting?
The boot sector is corrupt I do believe. Or wait longer. My Ubuntu install does that at boot for a wile.
