When I turn my computer on, it starts making this noise:

But when it's fully loaded up, it stops. What is it?
What the christ
Open up the case and try to figure what piece of hardware it's coming from.
It sounds like a motor spinning up then down in a rapid succession, and the only two devices that I know of that can do that are the hard drive or any optical drive as they use stepper motors, so they can actually brake and spin down that fast.
I might be totally wrong though, as I never heard something like that before
sounds a bit like a harddrive or disk drive, but it those shouldn't be that loud.
It's the hard drive as far as I know, but like I said it goes back to normal when the computer has all loaded up, it's just when you first turn it on
If its the harddrive its probably gonna die anytime soon, get some backups
As Tobba said, HDD is going to die soon, back shit up and get a new one.
Ah, well it's under warranty until 2013 so I'll send it back
They'll send you a new one. Don't think any company bothers backing up your data.

They don't, their website says anything that's on the hard drive is wiped. It's Western Digital if anyone's wondering.
By the way, are you sure its the HDD?
It doesnt sound like it but it could be a failing fan, as fans are at 100% during boot (mostly, atleast on my PC)
If the fan itself is disconnected from the motor it could probably make a sound like that
If the hard drive was making that horrible noise with the voice coil, it wouldn't boot. It's going to be one of the fans failing due to lack of lubrication. You can fix it yourself with some lithium grease, 3-n-1 oil and a small paint brush.
Open up the PC to be sure where it comes from.
I just opened up the case and unplugged the hard drive and tried again. Turns out it's the fan on the video card and if I stop it spinning with my finger, the noise stops. There doesn't appear to be anything physically wrong with it though?
The fan ran out of lubrication like I said. You need to get it fixed or the card will overheat and have thermal death.
