Hi, I just got out a components from laptop which motherboard burned. So I just wanted to ask,
Is there video card somewhere?
EX-LAPTOP: Acer Aspire 5100
I have no idea what it looks like in laptops.
It's ATI radeon Express 1100.
Also is it worth putting any of those components on ebay?
CPU: AMD Turion 64 MK-36 (2.0 Ghz)
256 Mb Video if it's one of those microchips.
2x512 Mb Ram
I also have DVD-ROM
battery 4000 mAH
keyboard as you see.
And a screen with build in camera for laptop.
touchpad :D
cooler
Wi-fi card
internet card
So which of those are worth to do something about them?
Also: Will screen from this laptop fit to some other?
I'm guessing those ATI chips are GPUs of sorts, although I don't have much experience with laptop components.
They look pretty old, though, 1GB of ram, spread across two sticks?
There is no video card there as such, just a CPU and the GPU, with just the GPU you can't do anything, they really aren't worth keeping, only the keyboard, cpu and ram are the only things there of some value.
And, did you use a scanner to take that image?
Yeh it's scanner.
btw what about screen? isn't it worth selling?
Also a battery?
Assuming none of them got fried along with the mobo, I'd say sell the RAM, battery, and DVD drive. You could also try to sell the screen, keyboard, and wifi card, but there's probably not a lot of demand for them. Might as well toss the rest.
Btw here is my screen : http://www.techexcess.net/au-optronics-b154ew02-v1-15-4-inch-laptop-lcd-screen-wxga-1280x800-glossy.aspx
is it possible to use old laptop monitors for use with desktops? I was hoping I could make my old laptops 15.4" screen into a touchscreen tablet to mes about with/draw

I don't think so, I dissected an old laptop hoping to do the same thing, but the screens inverted was build into the laptop, making them inseperable (I would need parts of the motherboard running in order to get a picture on the screen), and the video input was directly wired so it would be impossible to wire it to a VGA or DVI plug.

I was answering a question that is related to your own thread, he was asking if laptop screens can be reused.

I believe so, yes; But not without some tweaking.
I sold a laptop screen I found in pile of old computer parts for £77 - Cost me nothing, Kaching.
