Now I am on a tight budget, so I will be getting the Phenom 2 cpu first but I wanted to know if a AMD Phenom II X4 810 would be able to run with a 5850 (Once I get it later on someday) . Because like my old Phenom I have now it holds back my 4870. So will it be good for the card or not?
It should be fine i think
Yep, I have this same combo.
Actually mine is a X4 805?
Anyways, they overclock really well, so go for it.
The Phenom II X2 550 would probably be better for what you want... unless you really need four cores.

It's cheaper, and runs at a higher frequency.
you can overclock a 805 to better than that on 4 cores.
Which ones can you unlock an extra core on ? Athlon X3s?

Its the Phenom 2 X3 ones because, some are just x4s with locked cores.
But I heard thats not recommended though as not all x3 cores have an extra core, and if you do it without it having it could screw you up.

If he has the money he should get the quad. There's no reason not to. (Higher frequency doesn't make a CPU better by the way.)
