-Newest build at bottom- All this paired with an EVGA GTX 470. Any input from FP?
Asrock mobos are cheap crap, get something real from gigabyte, asus, msi etc. Also AMD 6000 series where just released, the 6870 is AMAZING value for money and the 6900 are coming this month. That and GTX 500 series are just around the corner. And on top of that, the sandy bridge CPUs are slated for Q1 and AMD is bound to release something around then to stay in the game. I suggest holding your money even though it's black friday. Other than that, it looks pretty good. Seriously though, wait till at least february for the sandy bridge and new AMD graphics cards.
looks good, but 650w?
looks good, but 650w?
Good or bad? I thought it'd be enough for everything. [editline]7th November 2010[/editline]
Asrock mobos are cheap crap
They're a division of ASUS, and the reviews make no complains about much of anything. And for Christ's sake I don't care enough to wait for the LATEST AND THE GREATEST MOST AWESOME PARTS OUT THERE. If I did that I'd be waiting for years and years, at the rate technology progresses. Also I already have my 470, as stated in OP. For some reason I pronounce ASRock as Ass-Rock.

I have that same mobo, and it's great. I would say go for it. But the people who had one bad experience with asrock are gonna bitch about it.
I'm looking at a very similar build to you, still undecided about the 955 or 965. Only differences between mine and yours is pretty much the GPU and I'm going for a 460 to save a little money (but hey! can always be upgraded to a 5xx series in a years time!) and i'm going for 2 x 500gb. I'm liking the build. If I'm right with mine then yours should be a slightly better low cost build. One fun thing to do is compare your PC stat for stat against something like a Dell/Alienware, you'll find that they'll charge $1000+ for the same stuff. I compared my build thats for about $750 to an Alienware and the latter was $1700.
I'm pretty set in stone on the processor, I mean seriously, it's $20 or so more for what could easily be done with a little overclocking.
Thats pretty much what I was thinking, oh and one thing to note make sure you get the 955 on C3 stepping. The ones on C2 are the 140w versions. Should be a good build though, I'm looking to get mine completed by end of December but I'm buying the case, psu, CPU, mobo, ram and GPU this month. Just can't justify spending any more out of my paycheck this month! HDD, windows and optical can wait a little while. You going stock on the cooler and thermal paste? I'm looking at some artic silver and a half decent CPU cooler from some of the case I have left over.
I don't get it, how is this a Black Friday build if it's not Black Friday yet, and how can you even do this when there could be amazing deals on i5 or something?
He is preparing a build for a black friday purchase
He is preparing a build for a black friday purchase
yes read my post again this is like saying you're going to buy something three months from now when prices are going to be really low and better shit will be out
He is anticipating price drops on the items he wants
He is anticipating price drops on the items he wants
that's dumb but whatever
Maybe we should let the OP fill us in on the situation instead of assuming stuff and bickering about it.
Maybe we should let the OP fill us in on the situation instead of assuming stuff and bickering about it.
Why would we do that? That would make sense....
Well I'm assuming this build looks good? And yes, I do anticipate things going down. For example, the Mobo already went down $25 today. :v: [editline]8th November 2010[/editline]
You going stock on the cooler and thermal paste? Probably get an arctic cooling fan somewhere in the future (if noise/heat presents problems, but my laptop sounds like a roaring lion atm, and it doesn't bother me too much.)

For only $30. And Arctic Sliver is $6 IIRC from Newegg. I don't see any reason not to get them.
.5 TB more for $5 more. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148337&cm_re=1.5_tb-_-22-148-337-_-Product
As well as a larger chance of failure/DOA, if reviews are anything to go by.
anyone who has a problem with them will report back 1 starring it but no one who had a positive experience (like myself) reviews it. newegg's free shipping is also known to be really rough on packages, thus causing premature failure. there was a guy who tested this and posted a review about it, maybe someone else remembers what I'm talking about. I've had 2 and a friend of mine has one as well. they're perfectly fine drives (and neither of us reviewed them on newegg/amazon). When it first came out there was some firmware problems but that was well over a year and a half ago...people don't update their reviews or complaints most the time. they complain about the product and never come back, especially if it got fixed.
Frankly I don't think I'll fill up more than 3 quarters of it. Which makes me wonder if I should just get the 500 GB. [editline]9th November 2010[/editline] Probably will, save some money. With everything on this laptop with a 231 GB drive I still have 113 GB left. [editline]9th November 2010[/editline] My budget is $700, really trying to save money and go for at least $600. Currently I'm at $654 w/shipping. However I still want nice performance. [editline]9th November 2010[/editline] Actually, does anyone know if the board comes with any sata cables? I'm not sure, and all I have is one spare, which would be used for my HD. Which is why I have to buy a non OEM DVD Drive.
Technically, if you are buying online Cyber Monday is where its at.
Newegg needs to get a new designer, it's a mess.
Newegg needs to get a new designer, it's a mess.
Middle click is your friend.
I'm pretty much using the gap between now and Black Friday to research so I don't overlook things like the main problem with my GTX 470 (heat). So anyway, if I'm not doing anything CPU intensive besides maybe GTA4, Photoshop, and TF2, should I save $50 and settle for an Athlon II X4? [editline]11th November 2010[/editline] Build, still questioning my choice of Athlon or not.
Actually, never mind. The only thing I'm worried about is heat and noise levels and if I'll have enough to spend to fix it if it's an issue, but I might as well keep the L3 cache.
20$ more on HDD and you get 1TB more, http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822148337&cm_re=seagate_barracuda-_-22-148-337-_-Product also seagate isn't shit, Ive been reusing my old seagate hard drive for 3 years and its fine.
