Hi all,
A couple months ago i picked up windows 7 home edition when best buy was running the special deal, It came last week in the mail and because i had a laptop and a computer which had either no os or a corrupted one i decided to try and use it to get them up and running.
Today i finally got around to getitng the computers out and trying. First off i tried it with a laptop. Popped the 32 bit disc in, the lights were going on on the cd drive, then....nothing. I tried a couple of times, even booting straight to the cd drive, but nothing happened. I had used the cd drive before and it worked fine (had the drivers, etc) but i figured something might be wrong with the cd drive itself, so i went on to the other computer: a desktop.
Popped the 32 bit disc in....and the same thing. attempting to boot to the cd drive simply said there was nothing. I was starting to get worried now, so i figured i would put the CD in my new, current computer and see if it had any data on it at all.
When i poped the CD into my computer, explorer froze instantly. Waited and waited and waited, tried to restart explorer and nothing happened. I took out the CD from the drive and immediatly explorer went back to working.
So, i suppose my question is has anyone had this problem with a windows 7 disc? and what should i do/who should i contact to possibly work this problem out? thank you.

As much as i would love to do that at this point, the fact that i got it via their online webiste makes it kind of hard to track down and kill them.
Is there a microsoft hotline for this kind of thing? not for the murdering best buys CEO thing, but for the whole messed up disc thing?
torrent a retail iso (NOT "pre-activated", that's illegal) and use the key from your broken copy
torrent a retail iso (NOT "pre-activated", that's illegal) and use the key from your broken copy
Its illegal to torrent a regular ISO anyway.
OP: Just send it back.

If worse comes to worse i will probably do this, but it would be nice to have working discs instead of an iso when it comes to ever having to reinstall =/
Still, thanks for the idea

I would do this, but knowing Best buy they will probably laugh me off. Since its an OS and ive already opened it and taken it out of the original packaging, i dont think they will let me send it back for fear that i would have stolen the keys or something.
Is there a microsoft equivalent of tech support for these kinds of problems?

it's legal as long as it doesn't come with serial keys or activators

It's legal to torrent a game if you already have it, same thing if you have a Windows CD.
Sorry To bump But a bit of an update in case anyone is interested:
Im fairly sure that the issue is a problem with the disc. When i take the CD and i continue to put it in and close the cd-rom about 1 out of every 5-6 times the advisor to install shows up. It dosent let you install though, claiming that theres an installation problem with a folder.
Attempting to boot from the CD supposidly fixes that problem for people going from xp to 7, so i did the same process of constantly trying to boot from CD. Eventually i got in but it claimed that there was a problem with my drivers and/or my computer had a failing cdrom (which is hard to believe, because i had just used it earlier to test if it was a problem with the cd or the cdrom and it worked flawlessly.
Anyways, i attempted to contact support today and i will most likely be having to contact microsoft about it , but thanks for the possible solutions you guys gave anyways.

If you have an error code or message, have a look on here:

To contact them, I believe this is the link:

My windows 7 install claimed I needed drivers and had a problem with my DVD drive until I installed the drivers for my RAID controller :v:
Sorry for the 3 day bump. But after a very long and tiring amount of calling in ive finally reached a solution.
Yesterday i started calling tech supports (started at best buy), ended up at microsoft, back to best buy, blah blah blah. After 2 cold tranfers and some 5 representitives, best buy claimed they would send a replacement disc after reviewing my Order. To make a long story short it appears that they were not completely true to their word as they told me i would be seing confirmation of the replacement either yesterday or today, but i wont jump to conclusions.
Ive seen a couple more people (on steam and what not) come out and say they too got a blank disc from best buy for windows 7. It appears to be some sort of mass dysfunction with home premium upgrade discs. My best advice to anyone having troubles is to call microsoft, have them ensure its a bad disc, then either: A. Contact Best buy for a replacement or B. If that dosent work, you can contact microsoft sales office (according to the representative i talked to) if best buy refuses.
Good luck to anyone out there who is having this problem, and i hope this info helps.
