Looks great, aesthetically, and the whole nemesis system. However, the combat seems to suffer the same problems the Assassin's Creeds series has. I dont know why developers dont look at Batman's combat system for combat pertaining to more than one enemy.

im not familiar with ac's combat system since ive never played those games, but batman's combat system seriously fucking rules. it is probably the best in any game ive played, and plus theres a lot of room for it to be expanded upon, with new moves and fighting mechanics (imagine teaming up with robin or catwoman and you're pulling off sick ass tag team combos on motherfuckers).
a system like that in something like a fantasy game like lotr would be cool as shit, especially if they implement the team mechanics, then you could be playing as aragorn and pulling sweet combos with gimli, the elf dude, gandalf, and the rest of the fellowship. plus decapitations and gore like that would make it really visceral and it would all just be great fun.
technically he is posessed by a wraith, and that can happen
the article writer doesn't understand, a ringwraith is very different than a normal wraith, which are just ghosts
Looks nothing like LOTR's and took a huge shit on the book.
Take out Middle Earth from this title and you wouldn't be able to tell if it was themed on LOTR's but just a generic fantasy game.
The whole nemesis thing sounds extremely ambitious and I'm a little afraid that it'll end up being less spectacular/procedurally generated than all the articles have been saying about it. If it does work out, though, this could be awesome.

The game's not canon and takes place in the timeframe between The Hobbit and The Fellowship of the Ring. And also, given the art style and characters and all, it's pretty clearly LOTR themed. I don't really agree that it looks like generic fantasy.
I didn't own them, but I still think the best LOTR games were those ones I played on the GameCube a looong time ago. If a studio made a game like those, then I'd buy it so fast.
This looks like quite a good game. I'll be keeping my eye on it.

I didn't even realize that I just made that pun.
I like the Batman AA/AC/AO style combat it seems to have. I just wish it wasn't a single player game.
A co-op LOTR game with that combat style set during the iconic battles would be pretty damn cool.
Gotta be honest, this looks really cool.
This game looks like a cooler/refined fantasy version of assassins creed. Looks promising.
I'm excited for it. I love the theme and I'm fine with the combat.
I hope they tone down the magic powers a little...they're a bit ridiculous. Other than that tho, BADASS

But it's very similar to Batman's combat system?

I don't know much about LotR lore, so I looked it up, and pretty much the only non-ring wraith was some guy who came back from the dead to give someone a warning. Apparently you can become a minor version of a ring wraith if you're killed by one, which is I guess what happened to this guy, but that makes you a thrall to them. So I guess he's somehow special and kept his free will, which still sounds like a fan-fictiony way shoehorn in giving magical abilities to someone in a universe where magic is very limited.
LotR lore aside, this looks like it's going to be pretty fun. I want more info in other new things they'll be implementing into the game, too.
Wraith thing seems OP. Otherwise everything about this looks badass.
Looks quite cool but seems a bit to distant from the Middle Earth lore we all know and love.

As long as it's fun to play I don't care why happens to the lore.
Unless they made Gandalf a women or something.

of course its not canon the guy is a fucking half ring wraith with magical powers, its totally a piss on tolkiens low magic story theme, not even gandalf used that much power in three books.
its fine as its own game but its not tolkien mythology
I'm mostly glad to see Monolith making single-player games again. This looks neat.
Apparently they're being accused of using AC2 assets (animations)
Ah jesus
You can't deny that the animations look similar. The rope/platform at 1:11 reminds me of AC as well. But saying that they ripped off AC animation is rather stupid. That's just how humanoid climb stuff if you're going for realistic approach. You don't do a backflip while scaling stuff (e.g. Warframe), it looks ridiculous and unnecessary. Probably they're using the same middleware (HumanIK) to solve hand/feet placement.
I like the facial animation. Animated eyebrows makes it look more believable.
Animations are definitely reminiscent of AC, but you can't really copyright human movements, right?

The facial animations for the orcs and the fact the game tries to procedurally make each main one unique makes me wish this game had you playing as one of them instead of a human.

Yeh this is bugging me so much. It's the same excuse with Absolution and Thief, just cram some shitty reason for easier gameplay and have the option to play the game without it even if everything was designed around it, instead in this case it's part of the character! Too over-powered. They would have to keep the armies HUGE so you don't end up taking over a sizeable portion of Sauron's army within your first day or two of gameplay.
"Half ring wraith with free will" sounds like terrible LOTR fanfiction
It looks way too easy and the combat looks like a huge button mash festival. BUT! It is an PRE-ALPHA (which is silly considering how beautiful it looks), don't get too dissapointed/excited yet

I sure they'll run the usual gambit of armored enemies, fast enemies and special stuff like trolls and wargs, so far we've just seen a group of regular orcs, I'm not too worried about it.
