Face of mankind was so very buggy and awkward when I played it many years ago, but it really did have its own sort of unique charm.
It had an enormous roleplay element which kept me playing, hopefully their kickstarter succeeds
Reminds me of Anarchy Online meeting EvE
I remember playing years ago as police and we all got a super fucking huge payout.
Hah, I remember being part of the army branch of the Dominion, got a few cool ranks and all.
I hated the combat though. Seriously, strafe-dancing while shooting at your enemy and having to use boosters and health packs and shit made it very fucking... I don't know. Whatever that was all about had no name.
The fact that everything in the game was player driven made it very interesting. The economy, the wars, alliances, factions, events all of those were only cause of the players. The only time the devs interfered, from what I remember, was when the army faction's (FDC) generals got too power hungry and started a war with a lot of factions, even the police. And even that interference was awesome, cause the devs put on a FBI-like look to them and actually carried out interrogations of all the faction leaders that participated. (with power hungry, I mean that FDC had one, if not the, biggest army in the game. So the generals could war whoever they wanted, and most of the faction, me included, was loyal to them)
Personally, I'm looking forward to playing it again.
When I played face of mankind I always chose the cop faction because I liked doing my best to protect whatever citizens were on the spacestation or planet I was assigned to. I was always not serious and joked around, doing my best to connect with the commuity. Whenever a raid happened or something equally serious I always found myself fighting side by side with some random non-police faction who jumped into the fray to help me out. I miss playing FOM
Very good player run game, if visually lacking a bit.
When I played as FDC, we had to assist the police locking down Tokyo as some various enemy Factions constantly pested the area before coming in force. We had run drills all day so we lined up with soldiers standing behind crouching ones almost perfectly. The Captain of our squad only having to abuse a few of us, finished up quickly and called for attention. Moments later the enemy flowed out of the cramp passage way perfect for our formation. Initially we inflicted heavy damage, but once the grenades were out it was everyman for himself. We broke rank and fell back, taking heavy losses in the retreat. Luckily other squads warped in from the DSS Yukon and we managed to clear the streets. Recruits get some action, mercs get their money and the cloning facility continues its lucrative trade.
