I can totally see a lot of people that owned the previous Thief games buying this.
i can see why people are giving this game some flak, but i'm just gonna form my own opinion when i play it so that i can see what it's actually like. i'm not too pessimistic about the game either.
Without a demo this doesn't have a chance with me. The gameplay video they released only served to show it as a floor-locked (jumping can't be done at will because the mappers were too lazy to construct proper boundaries, so play testers kept getting out of bounds), and to generally be a bland dishonored rip.
I'm cautious at best on this. There were a quite a few things I didn't like about the preview, but we'll see how it pans out later.

tbh jumping doesn't even seem necessary according to the gameplay video. I'm fine without it.

they took out pretty much all the stuff that made the originals good; unforgiving combat (AKA if you get caught, you fucking run or you're dead), all the cool supernatural stuff, the fact that garrett don't give a fuck about world politics, he just wants to steal shit

Newsflash, there's such a thing as bad changes and good changes.

Nah not really, I've been replaying through Thief 2 recently and you can pretty much kill everyone if you want to on the normal difficulty. It's really easy to dodge enemy attacks and there are plenty of health potions and other healing items around the levels. It only becomes problematic on the higher difficulties, although then you're often not allowed to kill anyone anyway.
Same applies to Thief 1. Deadly Shadows is the first game where you really couldn't fight through most of the levels on the normal difficulty since they took your sword away and replaced it with a shitty dagger.

Nah you just need to buy shitloads of arrows instead. Since they lifted restrictions on inventory and money you're pretty much swimming in resources after a couple missions if you farm the connecting world a bit.
Stand on a crate for supreme invincibility on top.

Normal difficulty? I choose the default difficulty in games religiously, and even I went straight to the highest and never looked back.

Yeah and that's what you should do when it comes to Thief 1-3 since the higher difficulty levels often also give you extra objectives to do.

But it was clearly possible to hear how bad the dialogue was and see how badly AI acted.
Those people who streamed it are sadly banned now from Twitch so it can't be seen again unless someone else starts streaming again.

I think it's more about combat/action at least in certain places being treated as a viable path next to stealth, which is Deus Ex' style, but not Thief where combat generally means you fucked up (or the difficulty level's so low you can just screw around).
I distinctly recall a trailer where the voiceover was talking about stealthiness and shadows while buildings exploded and Garrett needlessly set an unaware guard ablaze screaming his lungs out.

Your theory is destroyed with Chaos Theory (pun not intended). That Splinter Cell game was a fucking blast no matter how you put it, the epithome of the series, and it was made so just by repolishing the gameplay mechanics on a modern level. I can bet 50$ that they could've keep the gameplay the same for 2 more games and it would still rock the ice, if they improved it.

It just means the level design is going to be as obvious as possible and that freedom of movement will be greatly harmed because of it considering paths will now be cut out for you which considering the original games' emphasis on freedom is kind of a big bummer.
After like ten years of not a single game coming out in that license you'd expect them to actually go further in the whole freedom thing instead of going backwards.
If you like the game good on you but this is more of a "schizophrenic burglar simulator" than a Thief game.
From what I've read of previews and heard about it from people who have actually had time to sit down and play it, it is far closer to the originals than one might think. And the levels open up significantly after you get through the first levels that introduce your basic and more advanced concepts. One has to remember that an entire advertising campaign revolving around someone sitting in a corner for 2 hours mapping out patrol routes is not exciting for people that aren't already fans.

And then try to make it a sequel/reboot abomination mix as well, from what I've seen. Those never end well story-wise.

Ah. I still think people are overreacting like crazy. This is the Human Revolution team after all, it might still turn out to be fun game to play. I personally hated the "all real" Tomb Raider reboot as an idea, but I still highly enjoyed the game.
I'm going to play Thief. If it turns out to be a shit game, then it's a shit game, but I'll give it a change first.
