So I was wondering who's actually up for trying to get into amateur rocketry. I know this might be a bit silly, but it seems the Internet misses a (proper) place for amateur rocketry.
Is anyone in here already familiar with amateur rocketry?
I myself don't know much about it. Also I'm not going to include links in this thread as this is more a thread to ask if it's something people in here would be interested in. Also to get it all arranged, instead of just starting out with a thread in GD, with absolutely no idea where to start.
Also, I won't necessarily be the person to lead this if it actually becomes reality. Someone with greater knowledge and experience on all the subjects would be a better person.
So how would this even work?
It will be based on small teams of people that are members of facepunch around the world.
Hopefully we will have people that already has knowledge on all the needed subjects, to sort of start it all out.
Sharing the knowledge of our own experiences we will start to improve rocket engines, or making better mixes of propellant. We will eventually have small external websites to help people get into amateur rocketry, and knowledge databases that are easier to look through than threads in here. Also we will have shared rocket designs and such.
What it won't be:
One big team
Going to outer space
ICBM's
Things you'll need to get started:
Friends (it'll be hard to make alone)
Knowledge and interest (can be gained)
A place to safely make and test your fuels.
The legal rights to make rockets in your country (As far as I know it is not legal in the U.K. (unless it's a water bottle-rocket that is.)
Intelligence (you don't want to put yourself in danger by mixing the wrong stuff, or testing in the wrong conditions)

Well, I think national teams would be hard to get together. Also I thought of it more as cooperation, than a competition.

Not at all. I don't see any reason for that.

Awesome! Very good!
Hey, if you like rockets and science fiction, then check out this website: http://www.projectrho.com/rocket/index.html
It has lots of interesting information about rockets, life in space, and neat 1950s era sci-fi art work.
currently drawing up designs for a hamster-filled space rocket so we can kick SA's ass
it will even have spacehamcam
I like the idea,probably won't contribute though.
I'm a closeted rocketry nerd. I'm in
Why isn't this Facepunch Amateur Rocketry Team
Clearly a much better name.

If this goes anywhere I will be happy. There is no place to talk about high power and Amateur rocketry. Just some scale modelling and model rocket forums
