Any game with a defined character as a class is a "Hero Shooter" now?

But you do play with superheroes.

Classes tend to be more broad and can usually cover a myriad of sub-roles in the game, usually due to customizable loadouts that can significantly impact how that class is played. Meanwhile, heroes are designed for one specific role and have very little flexibility in how they could/should be played. A great example of the two is Titanfall 2; where the pilots are classes but the titans are heroes.
But can this really be considered a hero shooter when it appears to be more equatable to "Crackdown but with heroes"?
Isn't Crackdown's gimmick that you are esentially a cop super-hero?
I don't really understand the thought process behind making this game, like they ignore the fanbase they've got and make something really fucking dull and far away from what they've been doing, yes, let's ignore the people who will buy your games and make something that nobody really wanted and doesn't even seem remotely interesting, sounds like a good fucking idea to me.
What the fuck happened with Volition? Did they get bought out by some fucking edgy hipster who wants to shove 'le memes' in everyone's face and do something that's completely unfunny.
